1996 3500 2wd- just started this a few months ago. When floored, the 47RH? wont shift! Engine RPM's run up to 2700 and it just "hangs"... . Seems the shift point has moved to something like 3500 rpm when the TV cable is floored... .

I bent the bracket on the TV cable on the Transmission, to "Loosen" the TV cable, so I can drive 1/2 throttle now an it will still shift.

I dont see any problem TV Cable, so I am not sure what might have suddenly changed. Any suggestions, or do I jst readjust the TV Cable so it does not pull too far and sell the truck!

Hi Paul,

This might be something as simple as the governor pressure solenoid or sensor. you're going to need a scanner and pressure gauge to diagnose it.

Definitely no offense intended here... . but,

I'm not sure why people sell vehicles with problems, as opposed to getting them diagnosed by a repair shop, but I do appreciate it. In the past year I bought a 99 Subaru and a 97 Altima for $300. 00 each because the owners didn't know what was wrong with them, and wouldn't take them to get them fixed. Neither vehicle cost a nickel to repair, but would have cost the owners a few bucks to get diagnosed. They lost, big-time.

If your trans shifts fine under light accel, then it can most likely be repaired without a major expense, but it's going to be tough to diagnose it without the proper equipment. The first possibility that comes to mind on your trans is the governor pressure solenoid. If you've got a scanner, compare "desired governor pressure" to "actual governor pressure". If they're not the same while driving the truck, replace the gov pressure solenoid. If you don't have a scanner (not a cheapo code reader, but a good scanner), you should get it diagnosed by a professional.

Must be "auto transmission month" 3rd thread in as many weeks. Sorry I started it fellas!

Joe's right about the scanner. I borrowed a buddies to troubleshoot my 47RE. I can't imagine trying to do it with out it. If you use guages and the FSM, you can get close, but reading pressures and voltages in the trans helps a lot.

Hi Joe! Show in Bernards Bay this weekend. ;)

Hi PT!

Hope you're well.

We'll run into each other eventually. Where is the show?

Depends on when your truck was built.

Late 96 should have a 47RE. You will have an 8 wire round trans control harness connector. Gov solenoid and/or transducer will generate those exact symptoms.

If its a 47RH you will have a flat 3 pin connector. Then its probably something internal sticking in the VB or governor circuit.
