please help. 2003 w/ 40k transmission seems fine except for final upshift. truck will keep accelerating towards 70 & 3000rpm's without upshifting. fluid looks ok but with a tinge of burnt smell. no idication this was coming & at lower speeds & rpm's truck & transmission seem normal w/ no slipping etc. how serious is my problem?

Will go into O/D once the transmission warms up? The transmission needs to be at or above a cerain temp before the computer will allow it to go into O/D.

from everything i've been reading my first suspicion would have been temp. also but while it's been doing this the last couple of days the first day temps were in the high 50's/low 60's and today in the 30's and driving upwards of 1/2-3/4 hr. should bring the truck to more than the temp needed for O/D and it still won't upshift. i checked the fluid again and it doesn't have any kind of burnt smell, just used and color isn't bad but looks a little dirty & due for a change. i think it's more coincidence than anything that a couple days before this started it did about 3 hours highway driving(no problem), used 4hi that evening for short ride in snow storm, sat a couple days then problem began. i've tried letting off accelerator, turning O/D swith on & off & checked for blown fuses. i'm going to try driving it one more time to get it really up to temp & see if it goes away... ... ... hopefully. any other suggestions or help you guys might have is greatly appreciated.

i checked the diagnostic codes & got "P0700" "transmission control system (mil request)" whatever this means.

Hi JArbini, the Trannie guy will probably lend you more expertise than any of us can, but I had a similar problem with my 2000 Dodge V10. It wouldn't shift up for a while, then it started behaving erratically. It was popping in and out of OD. Dealer had a hard time figuring it out, but finally determined it was an electrical connector on the trannie that was making intermittend contact. That solved the problem for me.

I now have an '03 4WD CD and couldn't be happier. I've noticed no electrical problems so far except for the "lamp out" bug that seems to be biting folks with an '03 or newer. That is only a minor problem and I posted a fix on that in another thread a few days ago.

Have a good one, Karl
