Yesterday, I started out of the parking lot from work and the truck would not shift higher than 2nd gear. I stopped a couple of times, ran the selector to park and then drive, proceeded down the road. No difference. I then stopped the truck, turned the ignition off, then restarted the truck, started down the road and the problem disappeared. The transmission shifted as expected. Until today I have had no symptoms of bad behavior.

Now for the suspicious part. I had the throttle cable recall performed the day before at the dealer. The transmission acted just fine on the 16 mile drive home though. Just coincidence?

Any experience with this symptom?

RT_Craig,

I also have had this problem. I have no idea what the problem was. It happened once and that was it. It did the exact samething. Mine did not happen when i had the cable replaced.

I know it did not help out but, at least you know you are no just insane. :p

Don't Worry

Mine was doing the same thing, I have a 96 3500, 5. 9 diesel, automatic. All it needs was a new Transmission filter and fluid change and it's be fine ever since. That was a bout 5,000 miles ago, just rolled past 115,000 still running like a champ:cool:

Good luck, and try this first it's diffently cheaper then rebuilding or a new transmission

Sounds like the kick down lever is hanging up or needs adjusting. I know it sounds funny but it has alot to do with shift even under light pedal pressure. My guess is when they serviced your truck they removed the kick down when replacing the throttle cable and didn't adjust it right when putting it back on.
