I did a search on this but only came up with info on the Mag-Hytech capicities and complete transmission capacity. I can't afford a Mag at this time and don't want to completely flush the transmission, just the standard servicing.

On the transmission, I'm just going to drop the pan and replace the filter and the gasket. Capacity?

On the Rear end I'm just going to pull the cover, clean it up, RTV it, let is set a few hours and the fill it back up. Capacity?

Thanks for all the responses, NOT!

I got one response... .

I asked the dealership to give me the right quantities for the fluids for the rear-end and the transmission and they got both of them wrong. They gave me 2 quarts of gear lube, thanks to John Berger I was able to stop and pick up an additional quart before I got started. For the transmission, they gave me 6 quarts of Dextron 4 and since no one replied I took what they gave me. Well it took 7 quarts, actually 6 1/2 but I was short. Since you can only get dextron 4 at the dealship this was a pain in the @$$.

So for anyone needing this info in the future here are the quantities needed for a typical servicing:

Rear-end capacity or differential capacity for a 2001 4x4 is 3 quarts, it took the whole 3 quarts

Transmission fluid capacity for a 2001 automatic is 6 1/2 quarts

Auto transmission Capacity

Thanks for the info. I asked the dealer in Columbia, SC that question abiut 4 months ago and was promiced a reply. To date nothing has been heard. Seems strange that such a question should be hard to answer.

The auto fluid capacity depends on a lot of things including how long you let it sit before draining. What I do is drain it into a five gallon bucket and measure how much I drained out. Then I put that much back in. Works great and it's right on the full line on the dip stick after it warms up.

I just put the Mag Hytec on my 01' 4x4 and it said it will take 6 quarts with the new cover, but it took only 5 to reach the full mark on the dipstick. I know you are talking about a stock cover but this just goes to show dont believe everything you read!

I also just installed the Mag-Hytech on my 2k, as stated buy EMD I put in 5 quarts and it took the fluid to the middle of the dip stick between the top and bottom lines. :) Jack
