A recall? Hardly that.
I've got a DTT trans in our '97 truck. It was installed at DTT in Sept. 2002, and it inclluded the usage of the Chrysler OEM servo, as was usual practice at the time for most, if not all, rebuilders of chrysler auto transmissions. It is the factory part and seemed to be the best available.
In Feb. 2003 I learned through a thread in this site that Bill Kondolay had designed an improvement to the factory piston sealing methods used in the servo and was then installing them into all of his rebuilds which were completed after development, testing, and production of the new servo piston.
I called DTT to learn more about this and to inquire whether the new part woulld fit and benefit my transmission. . ... there had been no so-called "recall" and I made contact on my own initiative.
I was told that though it was not necessary, the new part could assure better piston sealing for a longer time than the OEM part in my transmission. I was also told that the part was available to me as a previous customer and I was given a price for installation of the part at their facility. I chose to have that work done at the price given and made appointment to do it.
Now the piece is in my transmission (as of Thursday, 4-17). I paid for it as an aftermarket improvement to my already great transmission. In no way was this a "fix" or the result of a failing on he part of DTT in the original remanufacture of the transmission in my truck.
For the record I have not noticed any improvement in the performance of my transmission resulting from this new part. It may well be that because I have a slide-in on the truck and the weight and safety keep me from driving with a heavy foot that I don't feel any change but whether or not that is the case I'm satisfied that the longevity of the thing has been improved by it's new ability to retain pressures better than any stock transmission does and better than other aftermarket efforts yet do. .
I'm surprised to hear that this new piece is being offered to other customers at no cost. No such offer was made to me.
