I have a 99 2wd with auto transmission. It's time for a transmission filter & fluid change. In a post a couple years ago someone said to use the old metal filter in place of the new plastic type. I did a search but can't find it. Sure would appreciate some info, with part # and availability if this is still applicable.

Thanks; Royal

the transmisson guru's recommend the old type. i use the old type in both my trucks. dont have access to the part # right now.

Got mine at Napa.....

Napa part # ATP 1-4942

I'm pretty sure it's the filter only part #. They also sell one with the gasket and filter.

I'm sure if you tell them what you want they can find it for you.

caution!

It is recommended to use the early FIBER filter. The early screen must use a gasket between it and the valve body or it will suck air. The hollow rivets used for the screw holes will cause a gap. While the screen does flow better, the solenoids in the trans will appreciate the better filtering of the fiber. The gaskets for the screen are hard to find anymore and can crush and still cause a problem.
