ATF 3 The others -4 and semi-synthetic all made my 95 slip.

This has been covered before so you could do a search if you want reading material. Some even try synthetic motor oil -a quart -. Do what you feel comfortable with.

The truck was designed for use with ATF +3, at least that is what the owners manual says. I would stick with that. ATF +4 is supposed to be backwards compatiable so I would imagine that would be fine also. Some feel you can run the GM Dexron (sp?) without any problems, but I will just continue to use +3.

I've never heard of anyone adding syn. motor oil to the transmission:confused:

ATF+4 slips

I tried APF+4 in my 2001 with comp on 1x2 and transmission started to slip in third gear.

I when back to Dexron 3 and slippage disappeared.

I got a real run aound from the Dealer, he claims i was 3 quarts low. It was not leaking but he saw a slight weep on the transmission probe.

I watch out Vancouver Dodge in Washington.

i going to try timberland on Portland oregeon next time.

atf 3 is only really needed in like 2 of chrysler's tranmissions, it's just badging for the rest (supposedly). i picked up a new gasket/filter and the guy gave me the dextron 3 and micron stuff. i was worried about using that, but all is well (see my other post). i haven't tried synthetic yet. .

If you want a run around, Timberline Dodge is the place to go. I tried to get some warranty stuff taken care of from them, even though I purchased elsewhere. I was shall we say ****** by the time I left. I wouldn't take anything to them. Your best bet IMHO is to find a good transmission shop, and let them advise you on what a problem might be. Then approuch a dealer if it deals with a warranty issue.

I just changed the fluid in my 95. I used ATF+3, type 7176 from the dealer.

I got an ATS re-build in April and they said the same thing--use ATF+3 only.

It's common practice for racers to add synthetic motor oil to the transmissions. transmission fluid is about 8 to 10 weight oil but not a real high grade. Most use Mobil 1 10W-30. It lubes better than the trans fluid and helps to prevent wear on the overdrive gears, especially if you tow heavy. I am using 3 quarts of Mobil 1 in my transmission. It was recommended by Dave Goerend. I trust his advice and it's given me no problems whatever. Dave said it will make my OD last longer when towing. He built my transmission.

I guess I learned something new today :) Thanks.

I had also heard that +3 is only needed in a few of the Chrysler trannies, but to make things simpler they spec'd it for all of thier trannies.

Mercon V all the way, and Lube guard with ahomba bean oil if ya really want to make that transmission work right

Dave Goerend told me the same thing. Also about using the 10W-30 synthetic - he told me to use that if I was towing over 20,000 lbs all the time.

Now I'm confused. In the latest issue of TDR, there is a article about D/C saying it's o. k. and recommended, to use the ATF +4 in our trannies, even though ATF +3 is specified. From the posts stating slipping is occuring, no way do I want to go into that.

The Mobil 1 oil has me intrigued though. 3qts. per trans is this the recommended amount; and this was recommended by Dave Goerend? Makes sense, but with the transmission issues I've had in the past, I'm leary. Does the oil affect the seals etc. ?
