Looking for 2ND Gen 12V parts - used

Chevy with a '98 12 valve

My girlfriend definitely wants a automatic trans behind the 4BT that's going in her 54 Willys. So I've started a list of sorts and have come up with 3 candidates, the 46RH, the 4L80E and the 700R4. The 46RH is my favorite, the 4L80E is tough enough but is the most expensive. For keeping the cost down I looking at a built up 700R4. Does any body have any experience with that trany hooked up to a 4BT? Any ideas?

I ralize it wasn't one of the transmission's you had listed, but have you considered the Turo400? It came behind many of the 4B's that are in bread trucks. Doesn;t have OD but doesn't seem to have been a problem in those vehicles.

It's possibly that we could use a turbo400 and double up on the transfer cases to get the low range. Sence the T400 is the predecessor of the 4L80E it's plenty strong for the job.

I am considering a 4BT for my72 CJ-5. How far along are you on the conversion? Where did you pick up the power plant? Any issues that caught you completly off guard? I like the idea of a high torque/low RPM motor for a trail rig.

I am looking at backing it up with a NV4500 and atlas II.

Were just getting started, have a J20 frame stripped and waiting to be cut down, no engine or trans yet. The combo you talk about is what I have in my Scout (see signature).
