My father's truck is equipped with an auto transmission that normally shifts and pulls with no problems.

Only sometimes the transmission will behave as if it's been shifted into neutral. After 5-10 seconds it will engage and operate normally. This has occurred pulling onto highway and starting into intersections. As of yet, it hasn't occurred during load or acceleration, only during take-off or slowing to a slow idle and attempting to accelerate again. This is a dangerous condition. There are currently no other known problems with the transmission.

Has anyone encountered similar problems with their vehicle?

Help!

Brad, are you checking the fluid level in Park or Neutral? Many make the mistake of checking a Dodge in Park like a GM truck. Must be in neutral. transmission Guru Dave Goerend says to check in Drive with engine idling, parking brake on and someone insude stepping on brakes. Sounds like low fluid to me. It will read high in Park and fool you every time.
