I need a little help with my auto transmission. It has developed a problem, under very light throttle the transmission “studers” going in to or jumps in and out of second gear. This happens when I am in stop and go traffic and the Trans shifts from first to second a lot. It works and shifts fine under normal and hard acceleration. Any ideas??

Dave mine has alway done the samething in traffic. It's smooth but it vascilates between gears. Mine also shifts well normally, so I don't think we have a problem, we just have a 47RE transmission :( Not the most high tech equipment on the road. For comparison go to the dealer and drive a new one. I have and they all seem to be the same.

Mine Too

Dave,

mine is doing the exact same thing... only between 1st and 2nd (or 2nd to 1st) and only while under very low throttle. It really seems to show itself well in stop and go traffic where you have to move between 5 and 10 MPH.

My solution: I'm having a DTT Torque Converter and Valve Body installed :D

I know that doesn't help much, but thought it might help you to know it's not just your truck.

I was running Mobil 1 Synthetic transmission fluid in it (before the transmission cooling line rubbed a hole in it and dumped it all over the road). I didn't notice the problem when I was running it.

I thought the Mobil 1 transmission fluid was not compatible with the Dodge spec's on our trannys?

Buyer Beware ?

Pit Bull,

the transmission shop I took it to thought that Mobil 1 was the best thing since sliced bread and I didn't think to question it. The truck ran fine for the 10,000 miles that it managed to keep the fluid on the inside of the transmission.

I know that the guy that's going to do my new DTT transmission install was going to ask Bill K. his opinion on Mobil 1 Synthetic in a DTT modified transmission. I know he didn't recommend it for the initial fluid fill since they need to drop the pan and do some adjustments after the first 1000 miles. After that, I don't recall if it was recommended or not.

I'll try to see if I can get an opinion on it. If anyone else knows, post it

Regular ATF for the break-in (1000 miles) then synthetic after that! At the 1000 mile check you only need to drain the transmission and converter and refill with a new filter, the only reason for adjustments is if you want earlier or later light throttle shifts ect. 14k on mine now!

it is normal for the trans to shift up and down at that speed, but if its doing it as you accelerate,or step in it slightly, then its hunting. It sounds as if this is happening to MG's truck,if this is the case, you ned to gte it looked at before you burn the trans up early, hunting is murder on a transmission.

Try doing the APPS reset thingy.

Disconnect both batteries for 20 or 30 minutes.

Reconnect.

Turn key on (do not start) and slowly push throttle peddle to the floor and release. Some say three times!

Turn key off.

Start and test drive.

Helped out a lot of us. Mine hunted between 3rd gear TC lock and unlock at around 30 to 35 MPH under light throttle.
