has anyone ever had this problem? when starting out normal accel in first gear then flooring it to haul a-- , the engine tach's out at 3100-3200 rpm and the transmission disengages, truck goes nowhere until you let off accel and accel normally. is there some protection feature to keep from over torquing the transmission? truck has 35000 mi. almost out of warr. no after market bombs installed. thanks for all replies!

Doesn't sound normal to me! I'm in the same "warranty about to run out" boat as you. 3,000 miles to go:( . Take it in now! Mine doesn't do what yours does and we have the same year trucks

Mine has done that since it was new.

It will hang in gear 3100 for a few seconds before it shifts.

Actually if I drive it real mellow it will hang (or shift slow) in all the gears.

I though this was normal. Well that is another thing I will tell the dealer Tuesday when I take it in for a lift pump (18,000)

I thought the standard warranty on the powertrain was 5yr/100,000 miles? It's a 2001. 5 w/ only 35k on it? Shouldn't that still be covered?

The std warranty for the 01's was 3yr/or 36,00mi. The engine has alonger std warranty but not the trans unless you bought an extended warranty.

have you checked the fluid level?

when low on fluid they tend to feel as if they "disengaged" for a moment... (been there done that)

Cracked transmission line? Mine broked at one of the bends as it came out of the transmission..... lost pressure, notice my mileage was going down the dumper as I was towing through the mountains of NH.

If not low, maybe the fluid is burnt and not coupling?

Had that on the Ford C6's... .

fluid level

what BK said:

Have also seen inaccurate dipsticks, take truck to dealer, but they will only fill to full mark indicated. For a quick check before taking in, add a quart of fluid and see if it helps. It may be sucking air due to fluid being forced to rear of pan during acceleration, letting off or taking off easier doesn't cause as much slosh. Just a thought.
