Anyone know who makes rebuild kits for the Auto transmission's in Dodge diesels?



I have 210,000 on my transmission and think it's probably time to rebuild it. So started looking for a place to get a kit and see how much one costs. My first guess was B&M as I have used their kits in they past but they don't make one... Too bad, really good kits.



I'm looking for a total kit, all clutches and steels.

Call Dave at Goerend Bros Transmissions. He sourced all the clutch packs, seals, has ATSG books, and helped me with the whole rebuild process. I also got a valve body and TC from him. I'll have no problem working on it or repairing it in the future. I finished putting it in last Sunday, and WOW... Feels like I have afterburners on all the time.

Wow cool. So what mods did you do? Can you cut the pistons to put in extra clutches and steels? I did this on my TH350 in my '77 Vette plus valve body work.

I had occasional shifting problems and a stock converter, so my main reason for the rebuild was a valve body and converter. I figured if I had it out, I'd try to do it right. All new clutches and steels, but no more than stock. (FYI- None were bad since last rebuild 80k miles ago). Bands looked almost new. Replaced aluminum planetary with steel. New input shaft since I heard they have a limited life, relative to the stress they are put under. Valve body oils in park, increased line pressure, etc. I chose a single disk converter since my hp didn't (and my wallet couldn't) justify a triple. Now I can barely feel the TC lockup, compared to my previous '5th gear' feeling.



It was my first time pulling a transmission from a CTD, but it seemed typical. Took me 6 hours to get it out and about 8 to get it in; all on my back in my gravel driveway.



To be honest, it was a little easier than I thought it was going to be. I may not have done everything perfect, but if it breaks, I'll be smart enough to fix it. No more tiptoeing through the gears! Good luck, and its worth the trouble.

Yeah I got to get an estimated cost worked up to do this. As I am not going to be able to get another truck till sometime late next year. I have confidence in the engine that's it's ok except for maybe a tune up and a pump recalibration. But the transmission I always worry about cause it's a stock slosh box and I haven't cracked it open yet. Not my first transmission though, I have rebuilt many other so it will be familiar ground just a bit bigger. Did you need a special tool to press out the reverse clutch pack? (this is required on all the trannies I have done so far)
