I'm tired of working on my 47RE transmission and can't afford DTT or Goerends to rebuild it for me at this time. I'm considering a swap to an NV4500 or some other stick. I would like it easy without too many mods if I do it.

Any suggestions?

I see on Ebay a complete conversion including all the parts to do it from a wrecked truck. I know that if I bought a used NV4500 they had weak 5th gear problems and would want to go thru it before the install.

Is there any other trannys that go in my truck fairly easy? I have a lot of ability and a concrete floored barn to do it in.

I have a friend with a six speed in a 1999 Dodge diesel truck. He said it's factory installed. Is that an NV5600? Any good?

I need to pull my auto transmission and see if I have a cracked flexplate first but if everything looks fine, I don't know what to do. I don't like rattling in the bellhousing area. I hate to buy parts and trannys for sport.

Thanks you again for any advice. I have a 98 12 valver but it's a quad cab and my cab, dash, transmission stuff matches th 98. 5 and newer models. Herb

Probably have to lengthen/shorten driveshafts. I believe the pcm needs to be changed. You will need the clutch pedal assy. , slave cylinder and line for the manual. The crossmemembers are the same I believe. It is a lot of work and expense to change over unless you know what your doing and really want the other trans. If not, just have your trans rebuilt locally with good parts. I am doing manual (6 speed NV5600) to auto conversion myself. But this truck is a toy and I have the time and another vehicle for it to be apart for weeks at a time. I also own the entire donor truck for a parts supply. Remember that incidental parts from a dealership will add up.

Mark, Why are you going to an auto? I might find out after I get a manual in my truck that it's a mistake. Thanks for advice. Herb

You can use either trans NV4500 OR Nv5600 both are good and it is not that hard to do I have done lots of these swaps. And you will love it.
