IF YOU HAVE HAD transmission PROBLEMS PLEASE RESPOND WITH YOUR STORY MY transmission LET GO WITH 1100 MILES ON IT AND I NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO CARRY A LOAD IN THE TRUCK LET ME KNOW YOUR OUTCOME AND WHAT THE DEALER DID FOR YOU IT IS 2003 2500 SERIES 4X4 QUAD CAB LARAMIE CUMMINS WITH A FOUR SPEED AUTOMATIC

OUCH

Sounds bad. Things like that happen, but the dealership should immediately take care of it. Might take a week to get a trans and maybe another week to have it installed. Keep calling or stopping in at the dealership to let them know that you are very concerned about your rig and want it done ASAP. You can look around at different dodge dealerships to see who has the most free time and competant people. The holidays is a bad time to have anything happen to your rig. I hope you get a good loaner. I used to work as a service manager. Those who had long term repair warranty work always got the best loaners. Tell them they had better be nice otherwise your warranty work questionaire from DC will reflect their poor behavior.

Best of luck.

Sorry to hear of your trouble I have the automatic in mine but have had no trouble as of yet, can you tell us what kind of symtoms you were having before it went out so as the rest of us with automatics can keep our eyes and ears open for the same problem?

Good luck with your truck.

Thanks Bob Miller.

The trans Temp light would come on after about 40 miles and then i would have to pull over until it cooled i was driving on straight and level roads with no load in the truck . i normally tow a 1200,00 pound trailer once a week i would hate to see what happens then.

:--) 12000,00Oo.

Very doubtful, gauges cost $$, a light bulb is cheap. Manufacturers like cheap. Years ago GM changed from a Hurst shifter to some other brand to save 75 cents per unit.

Most likely the check valve in the cooler line stuck closed. It is located in the cooler line near the left front wheel. If you did not drive it far with the light on, it shouldn't have hurt it. But if you did smoke the trans, be sure the dealer checks that valve before they give it back to you.

Didn't I read here somewhere someone got a new truck and the fluid levels were... . shall we say less than full (dry).

Wouldn't no or low fluid levels cause a fast unloaded overheat? Supposedly that's part of the dealer prep.

Brian

Low trans fluid in an automatic would cause it to slip before it overheated. Different story for five or six speed.

parts

If your part is a needed by a bunch of other new model owners, the wait could be a long one. I installed a headlight mounting bracket for an 03 silverado a couple of weeks ago. It was the only one left in the country until GM made more. It looks like Dodge must be in the same boat on the trans parts. :( I know you are not the only one with trans failures or problems on the new 03's.

If it is in the shop for 30 days, you may be within the lemon law rule. Going the dealer buy-back could take a couple of months though. Maybe you could get a mid-year truck with the heavier transmission?

Well boys it's been 55 days and no truck yet the dealer said i might have it by the weekend the lemon law paperwork has been filed since 12/24 and i plan on getting a ho with the six speed when i win the case it seems like a no brainer to me. :D

iirc, it is not a cummins. if i remember right from some tv show, there is a pair of locomotive engines. from the sound of them running and by the quick glimse of them that was visiable, they look to be 16 cylinder General Electric diesel engines in the 4000 hp range.

Check Valve

See post "Transmission Cooling Bypass Valve Failure????? " in 3rd gen engine drivetrain discussion forum. I received a call from my dealer about a TSB and had mine replaced before a failure. Sorry to hear about all of your troubles.
