Hey guys,

Is there a way you can wire up a '98. 5 auto so you can turn on a switch and the Torque Converter UNLOCKS????

Dad has the Mystery Switch on his but we are wondering if there is a way to keep it unlocked.

Thanks

I eagerly await an answer on this one, too. At relatively low speed (45 or so) it'll shift to OD and immediately lock. The RPMs drop so low that engine sometimes lugs. Lock OD and the RPMs are much higher than they need to be. I'd love to be able to hit OD at those lows speeds without lock up - at least until 50 MPH or so.

I'm arfaid what it would entail is REMOVING ground to the lock up control (opposite of the Mystery Switch, I think). 'Might be tricky?

I did it on mine

Get a floor mounted headlight dimmer switch (about 5$ at NAPA). Pull a loop of wire into the cab from the PCM (orange and black i think) the same wire that is used for lockup. Check TST website for the right pin # first. With the switch closed, it will function in the factory mode, tap the switch with your foot, it breaks the ground, unlocking the convertor.

I used this setup in mine for quite a while running unlocked until about 55mph, then tap the switch and away we go. I had the dealer do the reflash that changed my lockup speed from 45 to 52 mph, now i dont use the unlock switch anymore.

Chris- What was the TSB # for the reflash to increase lock up speed?? My '99 locks up in 3rd (OD button off) at 25mph and approx. 45mph in 4th (OD button on). It's the low speed lock up in 3rd that is killing me. I have to mash to pedal to get it to jump out but unless I'm really into the pedal, it will lock up again. Could this be an adjustment out of wack?

I'd like to know if such a TSB exists also. My '01 acts the same way as Challenger-II has described. My guess is that the TC lockup clutch would last longer if it didn't lock up at such low speeds and rpms.
