hey i have a 89 first gen with 727 transmission. . its strong but has no over drive and no locking torque converter ... . so no e brake and no more then 75-80 mph. . so i was thinking better auto either a allison 643, as it locks up . . or a dd auto trans built up from newer dodges... mummn 643 is much cheaper. . any one know specs on these?... are they overdrive?... lock up all the tim eetc. . i guess if i did the allison i'd have to divorce my 205 transfercase... any ideas???thanks

later

Call or email...

DTT, Bill Kondolay, and he will give you the info you need. He builds his version of the 727/47RE which is practicaly bullt proof, and no engine match-up problems. You will, however probably have to move your transfer case back to accomodate the longer overdrive transmission. Not such a big deal for what you will end up with.

Allison

While Allison makes several excellent transmissions and the MT643 is one I don't think that it would be a good choice for

your Ram. For one thing it is not an overdrive transmission, for

another it is a much larger transmission than you would want to deal

with, 478 lbs. dry. It is made to bolt up to a SAE #2 housing.

Depending on the A/N it can have one of 5 different torque

convertors with ratios at stall ranging from 3. 04 to 1. 82 to 1.

The ratios in the trans are as follows: 1st 3. 58, 2nd 2. 09, 3rd

1. 39 and 4th1. 00, reverse is a nice deep 5. 67 to 1.

What about that transmission that the Germans want to put into new Dodge trucks I think it's a six speed. The article is in this quarters TDR magazine.
