OK ... trying to get an OBJECTIVE discussion of the differences, advantages, shortfalls of these options ... I'm looking to get responses from THOSE of you using/previously used these. I need to replace/rebuild mine ... VERY SOON

Contact Massdiesel (508/528-6127). He is an installer for DTT products. He will not steer you in the wrong direction.

Personally, I have DTT products in my truck and I'm extremely satisfied with the performance.

HTH,

George

I don't have an auto. . but If I were to swap out I'd try ATS first. Everybody has DTT. I want the newesst and coolest... reliable would be nice too;)

After watching and listening to the auto guys on the dyno and around town with the DTT stuff, I would have to go that route myself. As more people are buying and using the ATS or BD products and more experienced reports are available I might go that route as well.

So, for now I vote DTT, cuz the experience of others have been very positive.

Time well tell.

A poll like this hardly serves as anything more than a head count of which TDR members(and only the ones that speak up) have what product.

Obviously, the forums are weighed heavily in DTT's favor, and a lot of effort goes into keeping it that way.

This is rather amusing to those of us that have seen the sheer volume of sales made by ATS and BD to customers that are not TDR members. ATS and BD see no need to dive into the shark pool that these forums have become, their success is not dependent on the tiny segment of the market that the TDR represents.

It has become a shark pool, for sure. Yep, the DTT stuff will be weighted in their favor from the TDR members.

Until more guys get out and buy/use the ATS or BD products I still say I would go with the DTT because it has been proven to work.

the good thing is... the choices are widening for all.

Brain Hopper’s statement is correct. If this poll is an indication of aftermarket transmissions sales then BD and ATS should have been out of business long ago.

It would appear that DTT owners are very passionate, about and proud of their transmissions. I happened to purchase a BD on a recommendation of a shop that sells and installs BD transmissions. I did my homework, spoke with BD as well as two other after market transmission companies and went with BD. I have been very happy with my choice.

When you line up aftermarket transmissions they all cost about the same and probably do about the same. I haven’t had the need for warranty work so I couldn’t tell you about BD’s warranty. The true test is will my BD transmission last, only time and miles will tell. Do the research, if you can try to drive a couple of different trucks with different transmissions and go with what you like. It’s your money and a lot of it. Jeff

:D

I suppose I was mistaken by posting this in the form of a poll ... . I really wanted to see some constructive discussion ... I am currently in need of trans work ... . and want to get the most info possible before I make a choice ... I doubt the truck will make it too far in its present condition. I need to go make some pressure tests this afternoon ... to see if I can locate the problem. In any event I think I'm destined to get this one replaced. I wasn't trying to stir up a can of worms ... nor start a sales poll ... .

The best way to figure out which one is right is to.....

1) Drive a truck with the same mods are you want/have, and deicde which you like best.

2) Call each place and talk to someone about what you are looking for including price, different options and whatnot.

3) If possible goto the place to see these people and talk more about their products.

Just my $0. 02,

Andrew

Keith (Rammin On), I meant no criticism of what you intended to do. Your intentions are obviously honest. I too, and many others, would like to see cold, logical, and accurate technical discussions of the products in question. Unfortunately, the way things are now, I just don't see how that's going to take place.

Without the time and money to personally visit each transmission company and see for yourself, acquiring a knowledge of automatic transmissions in general, it becomes a waiting game for many people, waiting to read in these forums or see in person at a local truck event, how well each transmission performs. Even then, you're still having to trust the opinions and the word of the owner/driver of the truck equipped with whatever transmission.

Of course, as a dealer/installer, I'm biased in favor of ATS, but can see the merits evident in the other brands. Still, if I had an automatic, the ATS is the way I'd go. I like it so much, that I'm shopping for a 2nd truck so that I don't have to rip the manual out of my beloved dually.

What about a Sun Coast transmission????:D

A local dealer has been singing their praise. A bit more $$$ than the BD :( ..... Any comments or experiences?

Be careful who you vote for.......

You might get flamed:rolleyes: I say DTT is proven but they are all good choices. How can you go wrong on any of those. Whatever you go with... . is going to make a world of difference. Oo.

Briar, Bill Kondolay told me over a year ago that TDR members only comprise approximately 20% of DTT's business. In fact, I believe he told me the percentage was just about the same when we discussed the same topic (fast forward to) the "Diesel Thunder in Spokane" rally (last August).

Well, I'll bet you all now how I voted in the poll. :D

I am not sure about Adam's, but Jim openly admits his is a "race" transmission, so I don't know if I would call it "off the shelf"?

Rammin On,

I have an OLD BD converter in my stock transmission and it works well for my power output.

I voted for ATS on the poll because as of now that's the direction I would probably go. They have some attractive features.

Honestly, I think you would be happy with any of these companies and a few others not represented in the poll.

I don't think there is any way to get opinions about auto transmission upgrades without starting a war. The best bet to get answers without all the :-{} would be to PM an individual who has the transmission parts you are interested in. IMHO

Rammin On, (Keith)

I noticed your down in Virginia. Perhaps you could make it up to the Big Rig Nationals, here in Souther Maryland, on the 27th. There you could compare some of the different set up's that are being run.

I personally have the DTT, and I am very happy with it. I have never driven any of the others either. So I have absolutely nothing to compare it to, other than stock. Which isn't much of a comparison.
