Transmission problem??

I went to see Mike at Auto Wurks today to make an appointment for EXTENSIVE MODIFICATIONS. I'm getting the three piece exhaust manifold and the HX40 turbo. Highest power Bosch injectors, dynamic injection timing, calibrate injection pump, injection pump delivery valves, and governor springs reset. 4" exhaust, power switch, and pillar guages. The truck has 63,630 miles on it. I'm getting an appropriate torqe converter a new valve body and power lock. I was wondering if it is a good move to use the original transmission. I had my mechanic change the fluid recently, and he said everything looked great. He also adjusted bands and clutch. Should I also get a new trans or do you think I still have some life left in the old one? The truck will definitely see the track probably just once and it is my daily ride. Have I forgotten anything as I might as well get everything done at once. 96 regular cab full bed auto 350 gears.

What HAVEN'T you thought of?! Dang, that's what I call jumping in with both feet. The ol' ball and chain keeps a tight rein on my bombing funds #ad
All I can say is watch your gauges and even with the upgrades, treat the transmission with respect and you'll probably do fine. I'm off to mope about not being able to bomb any further for now... . #ad

I am also doing alot of these upgrades presently. My truck will be going up to Michael right after the first of the year. All I can say is MERRY CHRISTMAS TO US.

When are you having everything done?

It is only supposed to be about a two hour ride according to street atlas software. That is norristown to Auto Wurks. I got sidetracked quite a bit and it took me much longer. I would have made a four hour trip if I had to. Mike had a bunch of Mercedes in his parking lot waiting to be worked on. I'm sceduled to go in on the 15th of December and it is supposed to be done by Christmas. I'm counting the days and I hope I can sleep

Well, it sounds like you're on your way to having a powerful truck. Smart idea to back up the auto transmission. You'll be fine with the stock one, once the mods are complete. Mike checks all the pressures to be within BOMBing specs before giving it the power. Did he take you for a ride in any of the trucks there? I don't remember if any were highly modified AND ready to be driven. I hope he met your expectations the way he met mine four years ago when I first stumbled upon him via word of mouth.

I wish I had your Job, bertyz #ad

I would also recommend a Parachute #ad

You will be real happy with how Mike does his magic. AutoWurks is a real top-notch outfit and sure knows what these Cummins work best with. Mike gave my 99 a new set of 275's, 4 inch exuast, and some guages. Runs like a totally different truck. Next step will be a TC and VB from Bill K.

Definitely a parachute and see if he will throw in anchor just in case the parachute doesn't slow you down. #ad

All the works at one time #ad
.

Rednut, his shop shouldnt be more than two hours from you.
NJ turnpike north, to GSP north. Take the exit for rt 280 west. I think it's exit # 143 off the GSP. Less than 1/2 hr off the GSP.
I dunno what exit he is off 280. The exit for "Pleasant valley way" will put you in the ball park. I think it's # 7 or #8.
I lived there over 20 yrs ago. My memory isnt what it used to be.

Good luck with your new mods I love what mike and the guys up there did with mine. Believe me you will have tons of fun and years of reliability.

Merry Christmas

Joe,

All I have to say is one thing... ... ... ... YOUR TRUCK IS HOT! #ad
It's mine but with an automatic! I think you may have some trouble with tires wearing out prematurely. #ad

P. S. I hope to see that bigger injecter pump in the future so i hope this transmission holds.

As I'm doing everything at once, I won't know what mods helped the most. I've given Mike the O K to install the B D exhaust brake the psycho filter setup (as he calls it), and the Auto Works custom intercooler. Does the custom intercooler make much of a difference? I'm getting it anyway but I was just wondering.

I had the intercooler put on my truck after i did all the work it drop the EGTs a good bit you can cruise at 70 mph the EGTs will be right around 400 degrees somtimes 350 degrees. it was a drop of at least 200 degrees. it works great i love mine. if you have any other questoins email me i have most of mikes toys on my truck so i can answer most any questoin.

Well, it's a whole lot easier for me to tell you what makes the bang for the buck, because I was the guinea pig for all the mods we now do and I had that g-tech computer stuck to my windshield for the tests. What we have today is by far the most evil power enhancements since I began modifying my truck (when a larger turbine housing meant power). By far the HX40 combined with the nozzles, delivery valves, and governor spring kit done at the same time will give you the most insane adrenaline rush you have ever dreamed of when inside your truck. It feels like you're riding inside the presidential suite during a tornado! Of course, coupled with the A. W. D. intercooler and the Psychotty Induction, it gives the combo an extra bang. The transmission mods are necessary to put the power to the ground, otherwise the engine would just rev sky high and the power would end up feeling a little better than stock. And the BD brake is intense in retarding power. You won't believe the way it'll pull the truck from the 2,000 rpm and above mark. The only thing I personally never got to be the test mule for was the auto transmission mods, as I have a 5 speed. But the racer has picked off where I left off with that one. All in all, take your pick of mustangs and camaros out on the street and laugh at all of them when your truck is done. With all these hot diesels running around, it reminds me of the line from the movie DUEL--"What is this, some suped-up diesel?" That's gonna make all the V8 gassers go nuts! AND we're getting at least double the mileage of what they are even with all the power.

Chris, I can hardly wait for Mike to get my truck. I noticed that you have 6" exhaust system. How does this hook up to the turbo? Is it custom? Where can I get one? How does the exhaust brake hook to it? Is it a big advantage over the 4" system? Thanks for your reply.

DieselB5. 9,

A few questions about the AWD intercooler if you don't mind:

1. Is the intercooler a modification to the factory model or a completely new unit?
2. Is it a direct bolt in or is there modification necessary?
3. Is it mail order available or in-house installation only?
4. How much?

Thanks.
