Ok,

I bought a used 2001 auto last month. Today, I met the original owner. He has a 2002 6 speed.

He told me that the trans was rebuilt because of the in and out of OD at about 45 mph. Major ouch.

Do I have problems? Your thoughts please.

Thanks.

I was speaking with Bill at DTT yesterday. Our auto's are not to be in OD when we're driving around town. 30 to 35 and even 42 mph is to slow for rigs with 3:54 rear ends. Our TPS could be part of the problem as many seem to be too sensitive at slow steady speeds so even with the OD turned off many will still hunt. I only notice the syndrom with a steady foot on the peddle as I'm going up very minor hills in town at speeds of 42 mph or less. Having the OD on or off makes no difference. The AC makes no difference.

However, I do note that the entire truck must be up to normal operating temps to experience this oddity. I'm wondering if there is a reflash for this as the signal from the TPS is operating within a window of + or - thats too close?

This has been noted sence I took delivery of my truck last August.

What kinda sustained rpm's does the Cummins like. Is running at 2500 unloaded for extended periods a bad thing? I know Bill's shop said that the transmission doesn't like less than 1700.

At 60mph with OD off I'm running about 2300rpm's? Just want to make sure it's not only good on the transmission but also on the engine.

So what's the max rpm for good engine life to run at unloaded?

Does loaded/unloaded make a differance as far as safe rpm's??

rakm

If my memory serves me:rolleyes: some time back this question came up and the member e-mailed Cummins about it. The question put to them was "How long could he safely run the engine at 2850 rpm in 3rd". The answer was "all day, all night ".
