On my '99 2500 the doors automatically lock upon start up. How do I program around this? This is very frustrating when getting in to start and then leaving the vehicle, closing the door, while it warms up only to return to locked doors.

The automatic locks ony activate when you exceed some speed, I think 20mph. I have noticed it is easy to hit the lock when getting out. Could that be your trouble?

You might check out your owners manual. I have an 03 and disabled the auto lock on mine. Not sure if it will work on your's though.

The doors automatically lock upon turning the key into the start position and the truck is in park. I've been told the dealer can program around it. But you know that means $$$.

GPatrick - My 99 locks @ 15 mph, again if someone gets out and you drive off, or if a door is opened while driving and closed again. I've looked thru my owners manual and can't find squat on the auto lock other than, Section 2, page 11, Automatic Rolling Door Lock - Optional - states: "For vehicles equiped with the Remote Keyless Entry system, the Automatic Rolling Door Lock feature can be enabled or disabled at an authorized dealer. " It continues on that it's disabled when shipped and how it works @ 15 MPH. Basically the Dodge Ram Truck Shop Manual gives the same great advise. #@$%!

Somehow I disable the feature on my truck and was PO'ed and couldn't figure it out. A member that had a 99 made a suggestion to unplug the batteries for about 30 minutes then connect and this should restore the settings. Worked for me. Oh, there are some folks out there with the 2000 and up trucks that have instructions on how to manipulate the programming but, the don't work on the 99 - figures. Hope this helps.

My 95, 2nd gen, would do the same thing. This was an unchipped key. I had two extra keys made. I hid one on my truck outside. I carried the other in my pocket with my house keys at all times. I had to use the extra key a few times. The 05, 3rd gen, is chipped key and quite different. Doors automatically lock at 15 MPH and that feature is reprogammable.

From your model year 2001 Factory Service Manual:

DESCRIPTION - POWER LOCK SYSTEM

Two different power lock systems are offered as
optional factory-installed equipment on this model.
Both power lock systems are offered only on models
that are also equipped with power windows. On models
without the optional Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
system, a base version of the Central Timer Module
(CTM) is used. In this version of the power lock system,
the power lock switches provide the only control
over the operation of the power lock motors. On models
with the optional RKE system, a high-line or premium
version of the CTM is used to provide many
electronic features and conveniences that are not possible
with the base version CTM.

Automatic Door Lock - The high-line/premium
CTM provides an optional automatic door lock feature
(also known as rolling door locks). This is a programmable
feature.
Central Locking - The high-line/premium CTM
provides an optional central locking/unlocking feature.
Door Lock Inhibit - The high-line/premium
CTM provides a door lock inhibit feature.

I have a 2002 Quad Cab. It has all options. My horn blares three times after i leave it for a while, just sitting in my driveway for apparently no reason. Do you think the CTM could be giving me a hard time? Where is it located? Would shielding around it help?

My reply to OL Ratlr was to indicate what was available model year 2001. I imagine the same wording is in the Factory Service Manual model year 2002.

The CTM is located forward of the valance (bottom of dash) near the driver's right knee.

I claim no expertise with CTM problems. That said, since all but the base version of the CTM provide for the optional Vehicle Theft Alarm & Panic Mode, I wouldn't be surprised if a faulty CTM or faulty input to an okay CTM could cause the horn problem.
