Is there any way to disable the automatic locking doors (the feature that automaticly locks the doors at 15mph). So far, that is the only real gripe I have about my new truck. I read a while back about some "cycle the key three times and push the door lock switch to lock... tried it several times and it has not worked... just shows some code on the odometer and says "done". Any suggestions?

You have to fasten your seatbelt for it to work ;)

my '99 had the same thing , let me guess you got out of your truck, & accidently locked the drivers door w/ the keys in it ,sucks don't it . go to the dealer they can disable it for you

I did it 3 times b 4 I had it fixed

I like those locking doors. I have to go out in the middle of the night sometimes with my job. If I have to go into a bad section of town, I like to know my doors are locked even if I forget. If some scumball tries to pull my door open to carjack my truck, I'd rather shoot him through the door or drive off with a couple of his fingers than have him trying to yank me out of the truck by surprise. And yes it is that bad around the Tampa Bay area in certain neighborhoods. The doors lock on my dad's Cadillac when he puts it in gear. His Honda Accord locks the doors if it sits for a few minutes and the key isn't in the ignition. I like that even better incase I forget to lock the doors at night. Nowhere in the country is imune to teenagers rumaging through an unlocked vehicle. Even in gated comunities.

WARNING - LOCK YOUR DOORS!!

Be sure you lock your doors and windows at home! A New Jersey man was found dead in his home over the weekend. Detectives at the scene found the man face down in his bathtub. The tub had been filled with milk, sugar, and cornflakes. A banana was sticking out of his butt.

Police suspect a cereal killer.

Vaughn, I looked briefly through the owners manual on how to disable the auto-lock feature and could not find anything.

I do like to lock my doors when I am in the "dark" part of town or in a big city, but I live and do most of my driving in the country. I just want to be able to choose when the doors lock!

I generally leave my keys in the truck when I am working out of it and it is a nusience to have to remember to grab that keyfob thing (or remember to unlock the three other doors when I get out of the truck) when I need to get something out of the passenger side or back seat. Other than this minor (but ANNOYING) complaint, I absolutely love this truck. Still kinda partial to my old 12 valve "beater" though!! :)

Auto Door Locks

There is a small blurb in the owners manual on how to Enable/Disable the door locks... ..... that being said, I've never been able to get it to work, nor the other 4 guys I work with. In the end, I had to get the dealership to do it for me!

An interesting thing about those auto-locks

They don't activate on speed alone. I have an inclined driveway and found that I can roll out of the drive, around the corner and down the hill, reaching speeds of 22MPH or so. The locks never kick in. But if I give the accelerator a good, quick tap at those speeds, they lock. In fact, I would say that throttle position has more to do with it than speed or RPM. Once they have auto-locked you can use the lock switch and unlock them at the next stoplight and they won't lock automatically when you take off and hit 15MPH. But if you open the door while stopped they will lock again at 15MPH. A lot of sensors for such a simple mechanism...

Per the owners manual.

1. Enter your vehicle and close all doors.

2. Fasten your seatbelt.

3. Place the key in the ignition.

4. Within 10 seconds, cycle the key from the OFF position to the ON position four times, ending in the ON position. (Do not start the engine. )

5. Within 30 seconds, press the driver's door lock switch in the LOCK position.

6. A single chime will be heard to indicate the feature has been disabled.

If the chime was not heard, the program mode was cancelled before the feature could be disabled.

(Repeating these steps will re-activate the feature. )

The above came from pages 15 and 16 of the owners manual. It worked for me.

You can also re-program the key-fob so that all four doors of a quad cab un-lock with one push of the button, (pages 18-19) and re-program so the horn doesn't chirp when you remote lock the doors. (pages 19-20).

Ken-

Great info. I had the dealer change the auto-lock and the one-click lock, assuming you needed the scan tool. This should actually be put into the FAQ.

FYI, I hated the auto-lock. It was a major pain in the rear, when shuttling my kids to and fro. I'd get out of the truck, go to open their door, and it would be locked. The kids, of course, thought it was a joke, and you get what I mean...

I totally agree that it is a PITA to have to unlock doors that were intended to be left unlocked!

Thanks for the info, Ken. I will try it tonight, along with the keyfob thing. Thanks for the help.

Steve,

If you open the driver's door first then all the other locks should unlock automatically, at least that's how mine works.

TBrennan the rest of the doors only unlock if you remove the keys before opening the drivers door. PITA if you want to get in back seat for a kid or whatever and leave truck running or here in Texas the AC just barely keeps up my truck is always running when a door is opend/shut as it is too hot in a truck that is not running in the sun with doors closed.
