I cannot attribute the issue to anything in particular. Running at Freeway speed or steady speeds the trans seems to downshift approx. 250 RPM for two seconds then upshifts 250 rpm. This will go on for 10- 15 mins then stop and not happen for several days then it starts up again. What if any damage will this do and any suggestion as to what may be wrong is most appreciated thanks in advance.

Try cleaning the TPS with aerosol electronic cleaner before you replace it. Just direct the spray at the shaft while moving the throttle back and forth. Most of the time this will fix it. Continue cleaning at every oil change for no more problems. Stock TPS for me at 160k, though I had the hunting problem in OD early on.

Worked for me. :)

this is the torque converter unlocking and then locking back up like the other guys said the tps could be bad or just dirty. what else can do this is the switch on the break pedal make sure it is ok and adjusted writr back and let us know what you find good luck

Thanks for the quick answer. Well I'm gonna get busy cleaning my TPS as soon as I know where it is and what it looks like. I'm gonna clean it til I need Trifocals. Throw me a bone.

http://www.dodgeram.org/ go here its a very good site, they have alot of tech info just look up tps they have alot of pitcures i think you will find what you need, but if you are standing in front of the engine the tps is mounted on the injector pump at like one o clock poistion good luck

Please fill out you location and signature/profile. We need more info.

If your truck is a 94-95-96, there were issues with the cold fluid telling the converter to unlock. So, if it is doing this on a cold day, it may be real simple to address.
