New guy from Guam with pics

THis is a must see - especially in the short photo at the end where from a bridge you see a whole bunch of Cameras... ..... wonder how long before it appears here?????

I've been told that sometimes YOUTUBE listings won't show - so if it doesen't just go there and search under - Automatic License Plate Recognition

It or something very similar is in use in New Haven, CT for the last 2 years. They call it a bootfinder and use it to drive down the streets and find vehicles that owe excessive past due motor vehicle taxes and they tow your car and you need to pay your taxes to get your car back.

Since Im a tax paying, law obiding (usually :D ) citizen, I dont have a problem with it, it seems the only groups that have a problem with it is the ACLU and the like who protect the rights of the BEATERS of this country. :-{}

Scary, but not nearly as scary as the proposed OBDIII computers. If they're installed, I'll never buy another new vehicle again. The "black boxes" in vehicles from 2005-up are bad enough, the next thing you know Arnold is chasing you down and some crazy guy grabs you and says "Come with me if you want to live!!!"

My Big Concern is using

this as the picture over the bridge suggests - is for SPEEDING!

Now if you are one of these who say "If you're obeying the law there is no problem story" then this won't be a problem - But with over 3000/hour recognition - it doesn't take many cameras on an overpass to start bringing in a bundle - can you say SPEED TRAP! :--)

I have a very good friend who is a Traffic Engineer and he showed me data that indicates speed limits are really not necessary as traffic will drive what is realistic for the conditions - it's called -I think "Side Friction" The fools who will drive faster will do so no matter what the speed is... Now I have a hard time buying that but who knows.....

Actually, there's an 85th percentile rule in traffic engineering. Absent any speed limits, 85 percent of the traffic will drive at (or lower than) a speed that is reasonable for the road and weather conditions. In an ideal world, this 85th percentile data would be used to establish appropriate speed limits.

Now, looking at Houston drivers, I must admit that I have my doubts about 85 percent driving at or below a reasonable speed on our freeways and toll roads!

Its my understanding that Arlington County, Virginia is also using a simular system to locate parking and tax delinguents. Big Brother is watching. But, why shouldn't everyone pay their bills if I do.

They use this system here in Houston. I was stopped at a red light when the truck pulled up next to me. We asked the cop what all the cameras are for he said reading license plates.

Cameras

At the toll booths in NJ they have cameras that take pictures of license plates. I got a fine in the mail with a picture of a truck on it. I had to call them and tell them the picture they had was not my truck. They take a closer look and say we read the one number wrong YOUR OK.

Then I get a bill from the company I have my truck through because in NJ. they first looks up the vin number for the tag number they have and send the fine to the title holder. So I have to call them and explane every thing to them. This all happened with my work truck What a pain in the butt.

The guy in that video should be fined for not wearing his seatbelt. Since he's in Ontario, Canada, seatbelt use is mandatory.

While listening to the police scanner on my shift at work today.

Dispatch:Call from Onstar " ladies voice moaning in distress but she will not respond to Onstar operator.

To make a long story short. There was a male passenger in the new Trailblazer that had 3 outstanding warrants that went to jail. When Onstar tried to talk to the people they said the occupants keep turning off the Onstar.

Someone in the Trailblazer pushed the emergency button while doing the "natural act" and the police went right to them. You can't turn off onstar .

Will pulling a battery lead disable onstar ? I have never had any experience with onstar.

LOL

When you cross the border (legally) to enter the U. S. in a car, they have technology that automatically reads the plate number to save time.

Canada Customs has the same deal. The agent ( tax collector) that you speak with, already knows who owns the car before you get to the little window.

When you fly into Cuba they have facial recognition cameras at imagration.

Even the "weigh in motion" truck scales record the plate number and date time stamp it.

keep your teeth brushed, your picture is being taken... often

RDHamill,

As you may or may not know, we Americans cannot enter into Cuba for any reason without a special permission slip. And those are very hard to get. Only humanitarian reasons and darn few of those can get you in anymore.
