I'd like to make a change on how my Overdrive operates on my '99. Specificlly, can the computer be re-programed so the transmission is out of overdrive on initial start up, therefore, allowing OD to be selected manually when desired?

Thanks!

Dave

Back when I still had an automatic trans, I looked into getting the computer reprogrammed and it's not possible.

However if you really want to change it, I finally ended up getting a "pulse control module intended to quickly send a 12 volt pulse when a couple of leads are energized. Typically these are used for power locks in combination with an alarm/remote. I energized the box with power from the accessory leads on the ignition switch. This in turn was spliced in so as to send the pulse to the ECM (just like hitting the button). Worked pretty good, but considering it took me an afternoon of futzing around it was probably easier to just get in the habit of hitting the button

Try looking on Fritz's site. I know a few months back someone posted that they had developed a bulliten that would accomplish what you are looking for. It was fairly strait forward, but I don't remember exactly when it was posted.

couldn't we just reverse the wires to the button is what I'm wondering--need to check the wiring diagram--this would be way to easy and probably can't be done otherwise someone would've done it by now--chris

The biggest problem is the timing. The button needs to be pushed AFTER the motor has been running for a second or two. A good way to demonstrate this is to hold the button down as the truck starts.

Button Pushed During Start-up

EScott,

Will pushing the OD button during start-up cause the computer to "re-program" so that future starts are then out of overdrive?

Or, is what you are suggesting a means of memory orientation?

Thanks! :(

Nope, ECM will assume you want it in overdrive period. Unless you add some hardware to the truck to "simulate" a button being pushed you are out of luck as far as I know. Weak but true.

Intermotive

Steve,

Thanks for the response. I have looked at the web page for Intermotive and feel this is what I am after. I've written to them for more information and would be glad to post what I find out. Installation looks straight forward.

Thanks again!

:)
