I was scared to death buying a Dodge auto but have squeezed 50K out of this one so far. I'm stock but do tow ~9K through the hills quite often. At 35K mile I changed the filter/fluid with Mopar ATF +4. I really wanted to do it sooner. I put a trans temp gauge on it at the same time. I was surprised at how cool it runs even in 105* heat while towing. From what I have read, there have been vast improvments on these 48re's. As soon as I can afford to, I'll be modding this trans as they can never be strong enough.

Mine was rebuilt at 34004. 00 miles under warranty and it is running tight just like brand new. I beleave there was a recall or ad on the front band's something about the band's being loose and needing to be tightened and it had'nt been accomplished on my tran's and I lost first gear.

Mine made it to 60K and was still pulling well when I switched it out. We regularly pulled18 to 20k with it and had no problems. I did put the magtech double deep pan on it the first week we had the truck. Only reason we pulled the transmission was to upgrade to the ATS.

With stock power, following the maintenance schedule and staying within the tow limits you should get 150K or more before work is needed.

I'm at 140,000. Change fluid every 40,000. Still acts like new. I don't tow often or heavy but I have 1300# in the bed at all times and climb lots of steep grades. Jeff
