im interested in converting my auto 98 4x4 to a 5spd nv4500. dont know much about it, whether its been done before, is it common, any kits out there, ballpark price range etc. figured this would be the best place to find out any information, thanks

Yes I'm pretty sure I read about it bein done. I don't know if you can find info in the conversions forum(mite be just engines) but you should be able to find some by using the search mode.

I bought a complete V10 truck dirt cheap. The only thing I had to "buy" was a Cummins flywheel. I installed a new clutch but even its the same. By the time I sold everything I didn't want from the V10 I had made $800 got lots of extras I needed & had a manual trans in my truck. Plus I didn't make any trips to the dealer looking for every little piece!!!

Depends on where you get your parts on what it costs I have done a lot of conv from auto to 5 spd and 6 spd if you buy all new parts and do the labor yourself coust is about 4500 to 5000 if someone else does the labor around 6000 if you do the job let me know and I will help you with what parts you will need

Built autos are definitely the way to go if you can afford it. They start at @$3500. Some of us just don't have it. I found a fella in Missouri that had a wrecked truck he'd bought and he sold me almost everything I needed for $1500. I paid a friend to install it, bought an SBC clutch, did a little drive shaft work, and sold the old auto. All said and done I had a little over $2500 in it.

I wish I'd had the funds to go with the built auto but I'm very staisfied with my conversion.

I am also very interested in this conversion, as i really dont like the way the auto works and am not sure how long its going to last once i get a new pump on. I also dont like how the auto jumps in and out of overdrive all the time, and seems that the stock torque converter wastes a lot of power. The only time my truck is fast is when it hits lockup, which is really what a manual is like in every gear. I swear the fastest accelleration it does is from 60-100mph. The rest of the time its just sitting there at 2500rpm waiting to shift.

I priced buying all the parts from a local place, and they were offering a rebuilt nv4500 and t-case along with both driveshafts, pedals and everyhting required (every little bolt they said), for 4000cdn, but in exhcange i had to give them my driveline. I think it would be a better idea to just buy another truck. What years/ models of trucks will work? (mine is a 94 reg cab 4x4)

Thanks for any help!
