I have had a tough time topping off the ATF fluid after a filter and fluid change and ended up putting in too much. I want to know if there is an easy way to remove a quart or so without taking off the trans pan again (a major pain, I am still cleaning up the ATF I spilled). I have a 2002 4WD Q/C auto. trans.

You can suction some out of the fill tube with some hose and a vaccum pump or something similar. Otherwise just loosen the pan bolts a little and let it drizzle all over everything for a minute:mad:

All is not lost . get a hose that will fit the fill tube make sure it is clean clear plastic works best you can suck the fluid and when it comes over the top of the high point let it drain in to a quart container . You can fill the hose hold finger over the hose insert end down to pan by way of fill pipe ,take finger off the end while holding below pan level drain in to a slightly larger container or stop flow raise to above fill neck and drain hose in to pan. I know this is a little too late

But this is another benefit of the DD Mag Hytec pan. Drain plug... Go with that on your next fluid change.

Ah, I just bought one the other day and I am awaiting it's arrival. I didn't know it had a drain plug. Maybe now I won't have to take a bath in transmission fluid. :D

Take the return cooling line loose and put a hose on it. Then have someone start the truck and put it in nuetral or any gear. Pump the stuff out until you think it's right.

The magtec not only has a drainplug, but it's also got a temp sender port that comes with a plug in it. Nice convenient overfill saver (not that I'D ever do that :D)

What's the big deal if you're over a quart (serious question). I'm kinda in the same boat right now.

I know how many quarts the mag pan holds but when I check my transmission after a good drive it shows probably a quart too much which has me kinda wondering cause I know how much I put in by the empty bottles I used... ... ... ... ... .

Just wondering if it's really an issue or not.

Thanks in advance.

the big deal about being over a quart is that if the level is high enough to start hitting the spinning clutch/gear assemblies,it will froth the oil, throwing it all over, and it could foam the ATF,when this happens the holding power of the trans goes downhill quickly, due to aerated fluid. Also an overfill oil level makes a trans run hotter, and its more likely to develope a gasket or seal leak.
