Was wondering if their was anyone in the Columbus Ohio area that does good trans work? I talked to Gorend Brothers yesterday and i think I am going with a Triple disc, valve body, kick down lever and a new front clutch pack with 5 discs. I can do the converter and V/B myself, but wondered how hard the other two were. I really have no experience with auto work. Didn't know how hard it was and if anyone in my area does a good job.

I don't call myself a trany guy , but in order to fix a trans when there wasn't enough money to have it done you need enough space[ to lay the parts out in the order they came out and direction, on old bed sheat[ the # one thing is keep it clean dust ,lint from shop towels can cause all sourts of problums] and have time , also find a good manual with exploded view, I here that the most of the custom trany guys can be real helpful with most of this, if your buying parts from them. Other wize if time is an issue and money is not that much of one then have someone else do it.

You would be far better off if you got rid of that auto and put in a 6 speed NV5600. :-laf

I wouldn't have bought the auto if i hadn't got the deal i did, so make do with what you have i guess. Swapping them out would be more expensive than just building the auto

the kickdown lever can be changed easy while to v/b is out, the clutches are another story. there are seals to be changed, clearances to be checked some special tools required... how many miles on your rig? if you already have the trans out for the t/c any decent trans shop should do the work for a reasonable fee if you do the R&R. i would have the whole trans done if you are already that close. it will save money in the long run. if your willing to bring it to lex, ky i can go through it in one day.

Dave.

blkdragon, I also have a 97 with an auto. Had it built by A2Z Diesel/DTT and am very happy with the auto. Goerend trannys are one of the best in the business, would be a very good choice. I've had diesel sticks in the past, but now with the built up auto, I'll never go back!!

If you end up doing it yourself I would highly recommend Goerend Bros.

If you have any problems or questions Dave Goerend is very good at walking you through problems over the phone
