Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Automatic Transmission Cooling Lines

I am about to install my transmission temp sender in the cooling lines. My truck with automatic transmission runs the transmission fluid thru a coolant cooler under the exhaust manifold and then to an air cooler up in front of the radiator.

My problem is, although I have the big 3 inch service manual, nowhere does it identify the lines. I want to measure the hottest point of course, but I don't know which way the fluid runs! Does it go thru the coolant first then the air, or the other way around? Or which line on the transmission is the "out to cooler" line and which is the return?

I got an adapter from Geno's Garage and it had a picture of the lines. It shows them at the front of the truck where they run parallel to the radiator. The one that is closest to the radiator is the hot line, can you follow it back to where you want to install sender?

The hot cooler line is the forward one on the transmission. That's where you want to put your transmission temp sensor.

I had guessed the front one was the "OUT" line. I am going to follow it to the front, where the rubber lines are that I am going to put the Vulcan T into.

Ya, it runs from the trans to the heat exchanger under the turbo.

Check that short rubber line as well. Mine was hard as a rock. Glad I replaced the line for one from a '95 that has the sender port in it. The new rubber line comes with the steel line. If you get the '95 line, you need to remove the rubber check ball and spring. The RE has a check ball elsewhere.

Got her done! There was a short rubber line from the out line of the transmission to the coolant exchanger. To make it easy, I just removed that line to inspect and put it on right. It was a very live rubber line, so I cut it and inserted the Vulcan T with sender. Made a really neat installation as well. The wires on the gauge are too short to reach that far, so I will have to splice in some wires to make it all reach.
