3 weeks ago i added the Mag-Hytec DD pan and switched to Amsoil Universal ATF and already i have seen over a 20degree temp drop and smoother shifting.

You don't list your rig in your signature, but for the 2001 DC calls for ATF +4 which is hard to find anywhere, lord knows I tried. From what I understand (someone correct me if I'm wrong) it is a mix that is blended especially either for or by DC. Supposedly it is different than +3 and nothing but +4 can be used, again this according to what I read in either the OEM manual or the owner's manual.

I believe I paid almost 20. 00 per gallon for it at the only place I could find it, at the local stealer. OUCH, that hurt. Could have driven a semi thru my butt after that visit.

Check your owners manual and see what it suggests?

a member on d-d has been using hydraulic fluid in his transmission without seeing metal shavings in the pan. i still wonder about it. i'll see if i can find a link...

Well here is a shocker, I am running regular old ATF in my DTT transmission. It was reccomended by one DTT installer and by Stephan at DTT. You have to change it more often that you would with +3 or +4 but it is cheap, like 10 buck for a case of 12 qts. Now this may not be for everyone because it firms up the shifts, but it seems to work fine.

I also run atf3 in a DTT trans, I was told it has a higher friction coefficient (clutches hold better) but it will not last as long as aft4 under extended high heat conditions. If you change atf3 at 15k I was told it would be fine. I have run the heck out of my DTT set up and have not seen over 180 degrees! I tend to think that a cheaper fluid changed more often is the best bet, at least during break in, just my opinion.

"If you want firm positive shifts and extra durability, dump the trans fluid and install common AW32 hydraulic oil $1. 00 a quart. Much better for the trans than ATF. Has seal conditioners, 10wt instead of 5wt. Don 't need an aux transmission cooler with this neither. I have had this in my trans for 50,000 miles and pulled the pan, clean pan with no debris or metal shavings that are common on these transmissions. I pull a 33 ft fifth wheel 10,000 lbs with no problems. People say I'm crazy because it has been drilled into peoples heads that ATF is the only fluid possible. I dispise the stuff. Seen lots of transmission damage caused by high temps and thin trans fluid. Remarkable results with AW32 hydro oil.
