1996 3500 Cummins dually.

When we start off in drive and the automatic transmission is cold-below 60 degrees, it will almost instantly shift into high gear and kill the engine. We must must start in low range for about about 3 or 4 minutes and then it works normally. Could this be the Govenor pressure solenoid or transducer?? Thanks, Diana

If you have an RE transmission tts possible but that is definitely a different set of problems. Is it going to lockup when it kills the engine?

Killing the engine like thta usually takes lockup applying at very low speed and the engine not exactly running correctly.

Thanks for replying.
Yes it feels like it is going into lock up when it kills the engine. The engine does feel like it is running correctly. Diana

Thats definitely not good if lockup is applying like that.

Do you have an RE transmission? 96 was the switch over year for the RH to RE.

Is it only when it is cold? Any issues at all when warm?

Any certain shifts that it does it more than others?

Just thought I'd give you an update. While here in sunny warm Florida Dutch had the transmission checked out. All seems find but the bands needed adjustment. Seems to be running great but won't know if the problem is solved til we run into a cold morning. Diana
