Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Automatic Transmission lock up problem

I just got the transmission rebuilt on my 94 2500 and am having a problem with it cycling in and out of lock up at about 70mph (1800rpm). Whenever I go back to the transmission shop and we hook up the diagnostic tool to go for a ride I can't replicate the problem. I was having the problem and within ten minutes I was at the shop. I had to shut down the engine in order to hook up the tester and suspect that shutting down stops the problem temporarily. This is making me crazy. Can anyone help?

lock up solenoid probably, also check gov solenoid thingamajig, detent (kickdown) screw (udjustment bolt). could be PCM or throttle pos. sencor, ... but i would amagine its the lock up solenoid.

It sounds like the TPS. Try hosing down the TPS with contact cleaner and working the throttle back and forth. That's an easy thing to try and cheap. Hooking up the diagnostic tool may have some affect on the TPS signal which would explain why it works with the tool connected and has a problem with it disconnected. I think I would clean the connector for the OD and lock up solenoid that is above the shift lever on the transmission. It should also be sealed with diaelectric grease.



It might be the kick down cable adjustment. There should be about 1/8" movement in the kick down lever at wide open throttle.

been there and done that with the hosing it down with cleaner..... changed out the solenoid / temp sensor/ and 2 tps'... ..... TAKE THE WIRES GOING TO THE TPS OUT OF THE HARNESS!! PULL THEM OUT ABOUT 2 FEET AND PUT THEM IN THEIR OWN WIRE LOOM..... PROBLEM SOLVED!! NOISE!!

Cleaned up the TPS and it's amazing how happy one little thing can make a guy. Thanks
