On our way from Jasper MO to Austin TX, while cruising, the overdrive dropped out, no noise no roughness. This happened in southcentral OK was able to continue on to Austin, with no apparent problems with rest of transmission. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem and know what it might entail to fix it? Also any recommendations of Transmission Repair shops in the Austin area would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jack :{

hi jack, sorry to hear of the troubles, from what i have experienced it could be the over drive solinoid on the valve body that gave out, it just quits, or it might be the throttle possition sensor, ( this usually makes it kick in and out) dont know if this will help, hope it does, good luck

Thanks Smokin Ram, how much do you know about getting to it? !st off is the pressure sensor solinoid and the over drive solinoid different parts? Last summer I replaced pressure sensor and the pressure sensor solinoid, at the time I was trying to fix a no downshift problem. Which turned out to be a high voltage problem, repaired with a 20 cent 100 ohm resistor. Thanks Jack

My transmission has done this about once a year since new. Just push the OD button and I'm back in OD and good for another year. I'm assuming that you were able to get back into OD; you didn't say. The dealer in south Austin replaced a bunch of parts under warranty but it was a waste of time. If it has happened just that one time, I would forget about it.

Jack, Inarush76 ( James Northrum ) did my DTT trannie - he is in Midlothian - just south of Fort worth. I suggest you call DTT, 1 866 594 4002 toll free, for advice. They will be glad to help. They can also tell you how to get in touch with James if necessary.

Thanks Landshark , but it was ano go pushing the OD button. I even stopped and shut the truck off '' which worked resitting the transmission with my no downshift problem ''. I tried many times from southern OK. to Austin. I fianlly decided that I had better just shut the OD off and leave well enough alone since it seamed to be doing all right without the OD

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a faulty temp sensor on the transmission. Worth a try. I think it was inly a $20-30 Part.

I had those symptoms. It was getting weaker as I went down the highway towards town. Was able to coast the truck into town. The trans was shot just like that.

If I remember right, the OD clutch packs were burnt up when I took the trans out, disassembled it, and diagnosed it. Something happened, the rest of the trans looked good. Definately OD clutches burnt up though. Gray sludge at the bottom of the pan. Rebuilt it with the critical advisory of DTT and replaced all of the electronics in the trans. Good and strong now!

I would check the temp sensor like others say first. Then if that doesn't work, try the rest of the electrical components in the trans.
