Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Automatic transmission

What company would have been the manufacturer of the automatic transmission in a 98 Cummins 2500? Not sure if it is 12 or 24 valve. Also, what were the major problems with these transmissions, if any? Going to look at a 98 quad cab today and just curious about the automatics.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought Dodge manufactured their own automatic transmissions.

main problem with any of the autos is the VB and converter. Once u change those, the rest is almost bullet proof. The 98's (RE's) are built better than the RH's.
