Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Automatic Turbo different than manual?

I am looking for a 98 12V manual trannmission compatible turbo. I have found a couple off automatics but the parts guys are telling me that it is a different turbo. Is this true or would it work?

The turbos are different, but it will bolt on and work just fine.



If memory serves, the auto came with the HY-35 and manual has the HX-35. The one for the auto had a smaller exhaust housing and I think something may have been different about the compressor wheel, but not real sure on that.



I would just put the word 'Holset' in the search box on eBay and check often. Some really good deals to be had on near new stuff and from people selling treasures for next to nothing.



You could also call a shop that specializes in building performance turbos and ask for the exact details on the differences.

Found a new one for cheap. Im on my way to get it now. The only issue is its a 12 cm exhaust port. Mine is a 16. Not sure if it needs a diff exhaust gasget??? The turbo i took off was from a 24v and wasnt original. How confusing! Hopefully this will work and ill be back on the road and not flooding tdr with dummy turbo questions.

HEy 98ramtough sorry I been MIA and haven't gotten back to you but the 12cm turbo you are getting is the right one. Your truck came with a 12 to begin with. It should swap right out pretty easy. Once you get it on and it doesn't help your power problem come on over and I'll help you figure it out.

You might have had a 14 cm housing on yours but the 12 will work fine. If its a true 16 cm it sbeen swapped. compressors should be the same.

No 14's on a Dodge from the factory. The federal 12 valves had the wastegate set at a higher pressure than the Cali sticks and IRRC all 12 v autos with the hx turbos were virtually the same.

My turbo looked to have a 16mm stamp but it was 12. I got the turbo on and it smoked whiteish gray for a few miles then everything cleared up. Everything seems good now.

No 14's on a Dodge from the factory.

Some 215 P-pump manual trucks came with 14 cm housings. IIRC not all but some did so it was a factory option.

stick with it, there will probably be some other stuff pop from buying a used truck . your in the right place to sort it out quickly.
