autometer A pillar mount

just wanted to praise autometer for the nice A pillar gauge mount I just installed in my ram. it looks great and puts the gauges right where I need them without being in the way

With all the postive comments out there... . I ordered the Autometer A pillar 3 gauge mount along with the Z series gauges to fill it up (Boost, EGT, and Trans Temp)... UPS should deliver it today!



What order from top to bottom do you guys arrange your gauges? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the advise, -Ken

I got the 2 pod pillar and have the EGT on top and boost on bottom. Now I wish I got the 3 pillar with the 3rd being fuel pressure with all this lift pump talk.

Gauges

Auto Meter Ultra Lites in a 3 pod A-piller mount.



Top = Fuel pressure

Middle = Boost

Bottom = Pyrometer



The bottom one is easiest for me to see (since I'm short) so that'

s why I put the most important one down there. Love it!

I have Trans temp on top, Boost in the Middle and EGT on the bottom. My fuel pressure gauge i am installing theis weekend will be down by the 4WD shifter.

Funny i just got finished mounting two guages in an A pillar tonight. Maybe I am too picky but I think the mount sucks. The U brackets for the guages dont fit in the pillar mount so I had to horse sh-t them> The instructions that came with the guages were written by 2 yr olds (auto meter sport comp),The 6 Ft wire that connects the Therocoupler with the guage was made wrong. One end shoud have been off set. O well

Your not supposed to use U brackets for the pillar, they dont need the U brackets, those are for mounting gauges in a panel, not in a pillar. Just take them off. The gauges stay in place by friction. Mine are so tite i need to to pry them out with a screwdriver. Ignore the mounting instructions the gauge came from, like i said, those metal U brackets are for panel and dash mount gauges.

END DIESEL: thanks for the info. Now that I have already got them horse sh---th in there that where they are going to stay. The guages came with a heavy rubber band around them that I took off. Maybe they were for some type of mounting. I just hope in my next life I can supervise some of the educated engineers that design and write instructions for this stuff.

I ordered the Dual Gauge Pod from Geno's. It is model 15-203 (2" black for a 1998 - 99 Ram). Did I order the wrong pod or is the fit supposed to be THAT tight?



I still haven't installed because I don't want to have to file out the holes. I am afraid I will screw it up and have to buy another pod.



Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Mine was that tight also. I took 150 grit sandpaper and kept trying the fit off and on till I got the proper fit. Took quite abit. The second hole I used the Dremel tool with the sanding drum, goes off much faster. Use caution if going that route! I didn't check soon enough and had a bit of a loose fit. Easy fix if that happens though is black electrical tape around base to tighten fit. Worked for me, Good luck on yours,

Autometer Guages

I can second the POD hole too small for the guage bit!



I had to lay the dremel tool to it as well, to open up the hole to fit the guage.



Actually, when it's all done, if done neatly, it looks pretty good.

Wife didn't complain = Looks Good.

I used a rat-tail file to friction fit like EMD said. Those babies are in there! I started with the two pod, and then got the three.



My only complaint, is that the faces are not all on the same plain. (left to right) The bottom one is really pointed east.

mine was also a tight fit but I removed the rubber band sprayed a little wd-40 on the gauges and tapped them in with a small hammer,be carefull though cause if you smack the gauge too hard you might miss and hit your fingers... just kidding, mine was a tight fit also but I just gave it a little work with some sand paper and all was well

You should be able to just grab a hold of the gauge and turn it. . Ok grab tight and turn very hard, but it should move... ... At least mine do.

I'm installing AutoMeter Sport Comps now..

So far I have the 2 hole A pillar mount installed

and I'm running the line for the boost gauge, and

the thermocouple. I have done this before, about

1. 5 years ago on my last RAM, a 3500. Dang if I

can remember anything from that install. I feel

like I've never done it before.

I need to find a brass adapter to go in the intake

for the boost hookup, and to my friend's shop for

his tap kit (pre-turbo of course). Then I have to

figure out how to wire the backlighting. I think

last time I pulled the light switch cluster out

and tapped into one of the wires.

The only thing I am doing different this time

around is the thermocouple (5244) which I believe

should react faster to temp changes than the one

I used previously. The gauges are AutoMeter Sport

Comps.

If I remember I will take some pictures as I go

along with my digital camera.

I also have the 3 gauge pillar, the gauges are an exact fit, so much that you need to remove the labels from the side of the gauges before you twist them in. My installation went and looks great.
