I'm not familiar with the Autometer gauges specifically, but if they use a connection to battery (+) for signal conditioning, what circuit did you tap for that?

Besides that, where did you take ground for the gauge? Is the thermocouple wire routed near any of the truck wires (the headlight wires, for instance)?

Thermocouples produce very tiny voltage signals (<1 mV), so they can be probe to interference, as you've discovered.

I had them installed, so I am not sure. I will have to investigate. The shop that installed them can fix it (I would guess), but it is a matter of timewithout the truck etc... The lead runs across the cowling and in. The gauges are overhead. It does seem to me that the lower reading (with the lights on) is correct.

I had some problems with an autometer pyro. I had a problem with it always reading too high. They told me to unhook the probe wires and see what it sat on with just power to it. Same should work for you, try it with lights on and off and see if it changes without the probe hooked up. If you have a black connector on the back, you'll need a pin-out tool or similar to remove the pyro leads from it. Hope this helps a little at least.

I have installed a few sets of autometers and have never run across your problem. Sounds like a bad ground, maybe check to see your grounds?
