Autometer EGT hookup question?

I just got my egt in and I was trying to hook it up quickly until my pod got here. Anywho, do you have to have all power lines hooked up? I have the red and yellow leads to the probe, then I have a black and white set of wires as well as a red and black set. I tried to hook just the red and black combo up so I had lights. But I wasn't getting anything, no reading, no lights.

White wire goes to gauge light power source. Blacks get tied together to grounds. red goes to switched ignition sorce

The minimum you need to make it work are the thermocouple leads (large red and yellow) and the power Red(+12V) and Black(-12V).

You do not need to have the lights connected.
