Autometer solved the fogging issue on August 6th however there was a 3 week lead time for the new lenses. This is the reason production was stopped and no new pyrometers have been sent out until this week.

Per my conversation with Autometer today here is the procedure to take regarding the fogging issue of the 2 1/16" pyrometers or other 2 1/16" gauge that is fogging.

Customer ships the pyrometer to Autometer and they will replace the glass with a non fogging lens and send it back out to you.

Send gauge(s) to

Auto Meter Products, Inc.

Attn: Customter Service

413 West Elm Street

Sycamore, IL 60178

Please put in a note that you are sending your pyrometer/other gauge in to them due to the fogging issue. PLEASE MAKE SURE AND HAVE YOUR RETURN ADDRESS ON THIS NOTE.

This is for anyone who has Autometer gauges - not just DIS customers. .

Brent, thanks for the info, but does AutoMeter expect me to drive around for 3 weeks without the gauge? And who pays for the shipping back to AutoMeter? They better send me a new gauge with a pickup slip for the old one--or this is the LAST AutoMeter product I will buy--including for my race car.

You are welcome to contact Autometer direct (815) 895-8141 to see if they will do that for you.

I dont have an 800# for them.

Brent--not flaming you, as I really appreciate the info--I did call AutoMeter and the tech guy said that I could either send pryo back to them (me paying postage back to them and they will pay it back to me--Yippeee) and that it would be repaired within 3 business days and then sent back--overall down time about a week. Or he said I could deal directly with my vender--in this case Geno's, so I will wait about 2 weeks and contact Geno's again. He did say to all who are intersted to wait at least 2 weeks from today before doing either one, as the new glass is coming in today. He also said that drilling gauge body will slow it down, but will NOT fix it. They can't understand why it is fogging.

Thanks again for posting. Tech guy also said that its because of the Diesel Web Sites that they became aware of a country wide problem.

I understand...

The only problem I see and Genos would probably tell you the same thing is that due to the stoppage most Autometer dealers have no pyrometers (the new ones are just starting to ship). So the first few batches we get are going to go to customers who have them on order.

This is why the two week issue scares me and I think the Tech guy at Autometer forgot about that part.

If you wish to wait and deal with the person you bought it from that is understandable I just wanted to remind you of the backlog and the reason a dealer might have a tough time supplying them vs. the time sending it in to have the lens replaced.

Just glad to see it getting fixed and to getting back to a normal situation where the pyrometers are in stock.

Think I'll wait......

Being in SoCal the fogging issue isn't so bad. It still works so the problem is only some mornings it's harder to see. I found that turning on the lights seems to clear it quicker. Probably heat from the bulb.

ADT said they would send it as soon as they get they get some in. I cant see being without the gauge for that long.

Funny though I would have figured a problem with the boost gauges. Or fuel pressure. Something that has outside air pressure to it. Not just wires to a sending unit. Tells ya what I know... ... .

Big White Beast, I wonder if it has something to do with the heat of the gauge? I pulled mine out the other morning to see if i could see what was causing the fogging, and it was quite warm to the touch!

Warm Gauge.....

Somehow I doubt it. Mine never seemed to fog up when warm. It only did it in the morning when it was damp & cool out i. e. Gauge cool. I can't imagine the gauge warms up that quick?

Although the warming of the gauge could do it. If I recall my gauge wasn't foggy when I left the drive (Might have been too sleepy to notice) When I got to the first light, less than a mile and low throttle, I noticed it.

Either way I'm waiting for a new one first. This one works fine for now. I'm really getting used to having EGT - Boost gauges. Helps me try and get better MPG out of the beast. The tach was a good indicator but these gauges really let me know what I'm doing with my throttle. Got my all time best 13. 2 MPG since installing. That was a 2 MPG gain:D :D

Sorry for being so long winded... Just had a pepsi!!!
