For those of you running Autometer pyros, (specifically 4344), how did your probe attach to the exhaust manifold? Thread in or clamp on?

I ordered a 4344 and I have a sneaking suspicion it will arrive with a clamp on probe. Can I just exchange the probe, or are they matched and calibrated from the factory.

Either way, thread in GOOD, clamp on BAD right?

Judging by the wire, it's a type K thermocouple. You should be able to use any type K that you like.

You will tap w/ 1/8 NPT threader. I believe you pre-drill w/ 21/64 bit, when you buy the tapper kit it will tell you. Then screw in fitting (supplied by Autometer) snug only w/ anti-seize compound on the threads. The probe will slide inside that fiiting using compression nut system. You can take the probe out from time to time and clean off any soot deposits if you like. I think the probe#

is going to be 5244(competition series). The number you gave is gauge# I think. Easy job, just read the instructions and take your time.

My Autometer came with both, threaded insert and the clamp. I drilled and tapped. Drilled an 1/8 hole, then a 5/16 and tapped it. Make sure you don't go to deep with the tap.
