I bought a toolbox/fuel tank combo (60 gallon) from a Northern Tool while they were having a 10% off sale for just over $500. I'm very happy with it.

I got a 45 gal. skinny rectangular tank from Northern Tool that gravity feeds through a Racor marine fuel filter (mounted under the bed) into the filler hose of the main tank. Hand valve is located at the bottom end of the tank, in the bed. I got the info from someone else here on TDR. It was reasonably priced, and works well. The tank is skinny enough that my 5th wheel box with sloped lid can still fit in the bed in front of the 5th wheel hitch.

Has anyone found a place to buy Aux. Fuel Tanks that are not price like they are gold plated?????????????

Find you a rectangular aluminum side tank off an old cabover.

I got one, holds 160 gallons, 1/4 inch clearance on each side, sits in bed.

Held in place with original hangers.

Cost 4 tank... $75!!! Gravity feed kit Northern Tool $65.

Northerns tanks are built by RDS , down in Fla. I have a used one on my truck and it's done quit well. I bought it for $200 and get 60 gals more fuel.

I was thinking of making my own some time. It wouldn't be that hard to make, fill it with water to leak test it.

If you run a line into the stock fuel fill, would it flood over? I was thinking of just filling the aux tank and it would fill the main tank at the same time?

Nate,

You would need a very large fuel line connecting the tanks to fill both from the aux tank. Use air and soapy water to find leaks if you build a tank. I use a transfer pump. The gravity feed will work but I like better control over what is going on than that. A loose filler cap on the main tank would leak if gravity feel was used. I did design and build an automatic transfer pump controller to deal with moveing fuel from the aux tank to the main tank. It turns on a warning light when the aux tank is empty.

Well, I did pay more than I wanted to for a Aero 45-gal diamond-plate, in-the-bed tank, but I went to pick it up myself and saved $150 in shipping costs!!!!! Yup. $150 to ship it less than 50 miles.

But the positive side is that I have probably paid for it by now in fuel savings.
