I have a 65 gallon aux tk/toolbox combo in bed behind the cab. It is hooked into the regular fuel system with a 2-valve solenoid. I can switch tanks with switch in cab.

My Lift Pump died, and dealer replaced under warranty. Was wondering if the aux tk hookup might void fuel system warranty. Dealer didn't ask about mods, and I didn't mention it.

Since the aux tk is higher and a little closer than reg tk, I am going to try running mostly out of the aux tk. Wonder if anyone thinks that might extend life of the lift pump? I would think the fuel would siphon itself right to the lift pump.

dont

Was it CSutton that done this? I think he has had great success with it.

Be aware under federal regulations, it is illegal to run fuel from an aux fuel tank straight to the engine. Most reputable aux fuel tank manufacturers will tell you this.

If caught, you could be fined, but I have never heard of anyone being caught for this.

I don't think that is right, you can't gravity feed any tank but you can pump fuel to engine or to main tank. correct me if I am wrong.

I had the tank installed by the manufacturer, KHS Fuel Products, in Lake Havasu City, AZ. My understanding is that the installation meets all DOT requirements. Tank has a DOT approval plate.

I am not familiar with the law referred to.

My truck carries an additional 1. 5 pounds of fuel pressure when I'm am running off of my aux sine the LP doesn't have to work as hard.

A word of caution: If you are changing a lift pump, be sure to switch to your regular tank first. Otherwise when you disconnect the fuel line at the pump fuel will pour out of the line until you switch it back or the tank runs dry!

Don't ask me how I know.

I've also heard about that law but never verified it. Something about a gravity fed tank coming loose and losing 100+ gallons of fuel on the road... dont' know. too tired to research. ;-)
