whooooooaaa, aint they clever

new cummins 5.9's

I'm leaning towards a Fill-rite pump, any good ? They have two versions at Northern tool, standard duty and heavy duty. Anyone have any experience with either ? The tank will only be in the bed for the winter months and pump out about 20-40 gallons per week. I plan on running a Goldenrod filter with the pump for water/fuel seperation and sediment. The standard duty appears to be more than enough, just don't want to buy a POS that lasts one season. Any advice from those that use one of these on a regular basis would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance !!!

I've used several Fill-Rite products, no need to worry about quality, it is excellent. I think the only difference in the two pumps is that one is a little higher volume.

Scott,

I have a GPI with an automatic shutoff nozzle but don't remember what model. Got it at Quality Farm & Country. I only picked it up late this summer after the heavy mowing was done. My bigger tractor holds 65 gallons. I might have pumped in 50 or so already. My pump being the larger volume they sold, did not take long. If the only difference is volumn, I would think the smaller would be adequate. I have the Goldenrod Fuel filter with screw on element. I have not looked into an alternative filter yet. They have one that blocks water also. I have only seen it in a catalog. Filter prices I have are 7. 99 and 10. 99 for the water block.

The only problem I had with the GPI was the power cable was to short. This cable needs to be fuel and oil resistant and not everyone carries it. The electrical parts store I use had a spool of 12 guage for making extention cords up. Worked fine.

Check this site out for commentary on different fuel transfer pumps including Fill-Rite.

QRTRHRS, thanks, the link had some good info. The GPI 120 was the other pump I was looking at, seems to be a good option as well. I ended up ordering the Fill-rite 1210. They were all pretty close in price and Northern Tool had free shipping. The Goldenrod filter I purchased ( with the water block filter) appears to be well made for the $$$. I just finished BOMBing the transfer tank tonight, added a ball valve as a drain and threaded in the fill cap with some TFE paste. Also picked up two pieces of steel to mount as 'feet' as the tabs that came stock on the tank left something to be desired.

Gotta take one more trip to Home Depot for my brother in law and then she'll go in for the winter, it's going to take one O. T. check to fill the beast though  .

With 110 gals. of diesel in the bed, guess I could always provide additional income by delivering home heating fuel :D . Hoping the extra weight will provide the ride of a cowboy caddy.

Transfer Tank Question

Scott,

What transfer tank are you using in your bed? I am looking for an approx. 100 gallon tank to put in the back to transport fuel from the local truck stop to my tank at home.

Fuel prices have taken another dip here and it is . 14 per gallon less at the truck stop than I can have fuel delivered to my place.

I am running a Gasboy 67S on my tank at home and am very happy with it. A local distributor is selling them for $300. 00 if anyone is interested, he also has some really good prices on Highland tanks.

That ~800 lbs of fuel does improve the ride and with the Cummins pulling, you won't notice much or a hit on mileage. Naturally, when you start to draw down the tank it will slosh around. With so little rain lately, I have not had much chance to feel out the effect on a wet road.

Ha, well, I had my chance today. Road was wet. Got about 60 gallons of fuel sloshing around in the tank. About five cars came together in front of me at a cloverleaf but I got her stopped. ABS was thumping pretty good. I know if I would have not had that weight I would have joined the party.

Yep, that was my other concern, stopping the beast. Guess you answered that for me. Glad there was no "CRASH" for you ;) .

Diesel is down to $1. 21 here, gotta that tank in before the climb upwards.
