I don't know sizes, but I'm sure someone will say what size they are. However, they mount either in the bed ,or where the spare tire is (or was).

Transfer flow, Aero Tank, American Tank. There are several configurations depending on lb or sb. Oversised factory replacement, in bed, spare tire replacemnt tanks.

I think Aero and transfer advertise in the TDR mag.

Tractor Supply place near me has aux. fuel tanks - actually they are tranfer tanks, but you can get the tank and a good transfer pump for less than one of the name brand aux tanks. I wouldn't mind pumping from one tank to the other, to save a few $

Right on Doc, I have less than $300 in mine set up with gravity flow, but an elec switch so I don't have to get out in the rain and turn the ball valve on anymore.

No, No, guys...

What I mean is a Factory installed tank. You know, the one you get when you order the truck new with an aux tank option... it comes with the dash switch or floor valve for tank1 or tank2... .

or maybe they don't offer it anymore?

tanks!

I've got a '81 Ford 2-Ton Truck with 400 c. i. gasser and 2-20 gal tanks, with a factory toggle to switch back & forth between tanks and let me tell you... the way that Ferd (when loaded) eats gas you NEED 2-20 gal tanks!

Have tank... how do i hook up?

I have a 20 gal 1986 cheby truck tank that fits under my tool box just right. How can I hook it into the system? Another 20 gallons would be very nice :D

I have a truck tank in the bed and plumbed it into the vent line just below the fill hole on the factory tank. Cut the rubber line and use a 1/2" house type copper tee to splice it in by soldering in a threaded fitting on 1 leg to tap into with your new tank. I mounted a electric fuel pump under the bed at the front and pump fuel into the main tank from the bed tank with a shutoff valve in the bed. I got my tank for $25. 00 brand new from a place that removes them from cab and chassis trucks when altering the trucks for their body. Its 45 gal like the bobtail trucks use.

I have the same setup but I just gravity feed to the vent line. Do you have to open the gas caps to pump, or did you modify them to vent air out?

The pump I used is a regular after market electric pump, one of those small sqaure looking ones and its kind slow but plenty fast enough. Maybe 1/2 hour to pump 30 gallons.

I made no changes to the cap as far as venting goes its all original. It seems to work ok without venting at all, of course the flow is small too.

Wow, that seems like a long time. My 37gal aux tanks gravity feeds in about 7-10 mins max. You might try taking the pump out and see how long it takes. NOTE: You will have to loosen both the aux tank cap and the regular fuel cap to let it vent as it fills... Have fun. . :D

What happens???

What happens when the main tank gets full? Does it start going everywhere?

Are you putting the line into the small hose on the filler neck or the main tank vent?

I have a chevy 20 gal tank with three hoses (supply, return and vent) if i hook my main vent to the supply of the chevy tank will it suck it down with out a pump?

1. It doesn't overflow, when gravity feeding, as the top of the regular filler neck is above the bottom of the aux tank. NOTE: If you have an aux tank bigger then the main tank, then it may overflow, as the level in the aux tank may be above the main tank, when the main is full. I have a 37 gal aux tank and only tranfer when the main is almost empty, or I have to watch it fill to make sure it doesn't overflow.

2. You just "T" into the vent line off the filler neck.

3. Yes, you can run a tank vent from one tank to the other, but I just kept it as simple as possible. I gravity feed my aux tank when I've stopped somewhere (to eat, camp, etc) and let it fill.

The reason you have to loosen the filler caps, for this type of installation, is that the caps only vent in one direction, into the tank, and will not vent to the outside. If you don't loosen the caps it will not flow, or at least you don't want to wait around for it to trickle in...

;)

Ahh.. I understand. but...

Will I need a pump for my setup? The aux tank hoses come out of the top. Not sure gravity will do it's thing without some help to start.

What are the down sides to hooking to the main vent? When bolth tanks are full it should draw from the aux tank first and then when it is empty it should use the aux tank as a vent for the main right? Then I shouldn't need a pump or a valve.

Just thinking.

You guys might want to watch out for accidental fuel flow should your hose come apart, accident  or overflow.

I saw at the diesel shop a spring loaded check valve that prevents the flow of fuel going out, but once a pump (suction) is in the line, it pulls against the spring. Only time it can open is when there is suction. .

Anybody know of small DC pumps a bit faster than Deezul's :D

I had a custom tank made. it mounts where the spair tire goes, 48 gallons. the spair tire now rides on top the camper. I use a small transfer pump to pump fuel into the main tank. Both tanks are vented together to prevent over flows.

The T

Does anyone know the size (ID) of the small hose at the filler neck? I started looking at things last night and decited that the filler neck vent tube is a much easier place to tap in.

I think I will install two T's in that line. One close to the tank for the fuel to flow in, and another near the cap for the air to flow into the return on the aux tank. This should solve the tank pressure problem.

I am still looking for a good transfer pump... any ideas?
