Anybody got experience with Aero tanks? I've had a transfer flow across the bed tank, but had to remove it due to the slide in camper. I'm thinking about a replacement 50 to 60 gallon and would like to add a little more without loosing the spare. Outside the frame rail will work, but I can't find anybody that makes one for a 97 3500 4X4. Any info will be appreciated.

An extra tank of fuel on a long trip pulling the 5er is always a good idea. I have an in bed 66 gallon auz tank. Some of the best money I spent yet. :)

I'm a dealer for Transferflow, but they don't have anything that doesn't remove the spare other than the 54 gallon model replacement. I'd like closer to 80 gallons. I did find a company that has gravity flow tanks that fit in front of and behind the wheel wells flat against the side walls. Up to four 11 gallon tanks, problem there is no way to fill them with the camper on board.

I HAVE INSTALLED THE 60 GALLON AERO TANK. THIS TANK CAN ONLY BE USED ON THE LONG BED. THE TANK WAS A GOOD FIT, AND THE INSTALLATION WENT WELL. IF YOU DECIDE TO INSTALL THIS TANK I WILL EMAIL YOU SOME TIPS I LEARNED FROM MY INSTALLATION.

Bought a 100 gal. slant tank for my '97 back in '98, pulled it when I bought my '03 , just got it in the new truck!! Comes in handy when fuel out of the pump is up to 50 cents less a gallon 100 miles in any direction:( Usually less then that funny colored stuff sells for locally. . Would definitely reccommend Aero Tanks !!

Mike,

Thanks for the Tourbuddy link. I emailed them with a lot of questions--still waiting for the response.

Transfer-Flow makes a kit for adding a filler in the side of a topper to fill in-bed tanks--I wonder if you could use this through the bed of the truck for the Tourbuddy tanks? It looks like they come right up to the bottom of the bedrail, so you'd probably lose some of the volume on the top of the tanks by filling through the side, but it might make some use of the wasted space with a camper.

AERO AUX FUEL TANK

THE AERO TANK FITS 1/2" FROM THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME. IF I WERE TO DO THE INSTALLATION AGAIN, I WOULD WELD A SQUARE WASHER TO THE BOLTS GO THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME. THIS WASHER WILL PREVENT THE BOLT FROM ROTATING. IT WAS QUITE A CHALLENGE TO INSTALL THE BOLT WITH THE TANK IN PLACE. TWO FLOOR JACKS WERE USED TO PUT THE TANK IN POSITION. ALSO BE SURE TO USE THE EPOXY PROVIDED WITH THE TANK TO SEAL THE O RING GASKET AT THE TOP OF THE TANK. I DID NOT USE THE EPOXY PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE TANK, AND I HAD A SMALL LEAK WHEN THE TANK WAS FILLED. THESE ARE THE ONLY SUGGESTION I HAVE TO OFFER.

I had AERO tanks install their 60 gal. replacement tank 4 1/2 years ago, love it no problems.

Some of the reasons that I had AERO install it; 1- installation price was right. 2- factory was only about 40 mi. from my wife’s brother’s house (this would justify a visit), 3- (most important) they said that if I installed it the warranty was 1 year, if they installed it the warranty was 2 years. 4- shipping costs would be about half of what their installation fee was.

I would just add that if you install ANY BRAND REPLACEMENT tank, replace the fuel pickup/sending unit when the tank is off the truck. This will probably save you labor costs to do it a couple of years down the road anyway. Then keep the original fuel pickup/sending unit as a spare.
