Yep, that looks like the Pollack unit... Borg Warner and Pollack probably buy 'em from the same place. :D

Bill

I wouldn't doubt it any. But if you walk into the parts store and ask for a Pollack 6 port fuel tank valve, most parts guys will look at you with that all-to-familiar WTH? look. :-laf But, give 'em a Borg Warner part number, and they MIGHT be able to convince themselves to ask the manager what you're talking about. And he might even know what it is you want. The guys at the local Orielly's don't ever know how to take it when I pull in. Some of them run to the back, others just stand back and watch.

"Hello Sir, what can I help you with today?"

"I need a hydraulic steering pump. "

"For what vehicle, Sir?"

"A 1979 875 Versatile. "

"A what?!"

"A 1979 875 Versatile. "

"Uhhhhh"

"That's a farm tractor, son. "

"Uhhhhh"

"You'll have to get a book out, I'd imagine. "

"Uhhhhh, do we have a book for that?"

"Yep, it's the Farm and Heavy duty book. "

"Uhhhhh"

"Do you mind if I just look it up myself?"

"Uhhhhh"

"Thanks"

"Uhhhhh"

"Here, type this part number in. "

"Uhhhhh, ok... . ":D

i have a transfer flow 74 gal,automatic fuel transfer,pricey but worth it ,350,000 mi.

you for get to shut off a gravity feed or aux pump and dump fuel on the ground could cost a lot more. i have installed a tank with the POLACK valve, they work good also.

[QUOTE=HHhuntitall. They make for a nice setup, I think. Replace the manual guage with an Isspro tank sending unit, and you've got a nice OTR setup, with a good 1600 mile range,

When I put my Aux tank in my wife asked now how far can we go. I told her pullin the TT about 1200 miles non stop with all the tanks full. Her reply was I cant hold it that long. I handed her a freezer bag and :D FAT CHANCE BUDDY

BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! That takes some "Pelotas Grandes", right there, buddy!!! HA!!

That's what I found out on my first setup on my '89. I could run 1,000-1300 miles, depending on load, but I couldn't sit there that long!! Most I ever ran was around 700 miles in a day without stopping. And then I was done for a couple hours. I was hauling horses, and they needed a rest, too. Unfortunately, that truck didn't have Auto-pilot!! I got some good naps from Las Cruces to Tuscon and Alamagorda to Brownfield, though. I love that country, but not from the driver's seat!!!

When truckin I put fuel in at the Nebraska/ Iowa state line. I was supposed to stop in North Platte NB to see my Aunt. The next thing I remember was a sign that said welcome to WY. I missed the entire state of NB (not a bad thing if I were really awake)

Transfer Flow sells an in bed tank with a fill neck and bezel for installation through a fiberglass camper shell. It is a nice looking professionally finished product. My TF tank was initially used in a truck with a camper shell.

Are they still around? Does anyone know who they are? I remember one that looked like a square doughnut, the hole in the middle being there so the spare tire could still be mounted, just lower down. It didn't look like very good quality. Shad

I'm presuming you've seen these lareger replacement tanks..... these are poly... . Dodge Large Capacity Diesel Fuel Tanks for Pickup Trucks ~ TITAN Diesel Fuel Tanks: The Leader in Auxiliary Fuel Tanks

The TransferFlow replacements are aluminized steel, I think. Dodge pickup replacement tanks

Then there's these guys: Dodge Fuel Tanks - AeroTanks Years ago, I had them build some custom bed tanks for some large gas suckers I had... . they were nice, and I still have two of them. They'll do custom work, but they're pretty pricey..... might work with you for a rear, under-frame tank.

These guys are new, and local to my shop... . ATTB - Auxiliary Fuel Tanks I think I know who they are, and they're nice folk. I didn't know they had started doing this until a few months ago. I've got to get over there and check 'em out..... they've been welders, machinists, and general fabricators and tinkers for several generations.

Hey, just found these guys... I love the internet. I could waste all day around here..... Ram Auxiliary fuel tank

Aren't these some of the same people who were originally in Farmers Branch (north Dallas) who had to move because of the DART railroad? IIRC, they moved to Frisco, TX and evidently are now in Pilot Point. I bought one of their tanks and had it installed years ago in my '92 D350 when they were in Farmers Branch. I moved the tank to a '97 3500 and again to a '00 3500. I installed a new hoses, switch, and wiring each time I moved the tank. I eventually sold the tank to a TDR member in Fort Worth after I sold our fifth wheel trailer.

I think they were there somewhere along 35..... I don't know about them moving to Friscoe. I believe their parents/uncles/in-laws(however they're related) lived in Pilot Point and had a smaller/mid-sized welding shop and hardware store. And I could be mistaken. Word of mouth is only as reliable as the people you hear it from..... Story I got was the aluminum welding was getting a gripe from the neighbors, so the city was going to make them install filters in their exhaust fan equipment, there was no room for expansion, and the rent just kept going up, so they moved. Pilot Point is a small town, so they're eager to have the business there, and with the family already there, it all added up.

Sturm Welding: Home I believe the old man was the town blacksmith, who had two sons. They were well in their 60/70s when I met them as a kid. I haven't been in there in several years. Doing farm work and repairs, racing cars and dirt bikes, and just building whatever someone wanted, I used to have them fab parts for me quite a bit. They were also a good source for material, such as chromealloy pipe for a car chassis. They've got some pretty big metal shears/brakes, so I had them bend me up some trailer parts two years ago for a trailer the FFA built for me. Great people to deal with, even if it's hard to understand that German accent!!

No, they are definately different folks. That bunch in Farmers Branch were pretty half-a**ed about the quality of their installation work. I had to redo a lot of their orignial installation and made the mistake of letting them install the valve and wiring in my new '00 3500. The only time I have ever been left on the side of the highway in a CTD was because of their sloppy installation.

It sounds like the folks in Pilot Point still cling to old German craftsmanship.

I can believe their story about Frisco. They would have been welcome 30-40 years ago, but Frisco is now just an extension of the north Dallas mega-mess. My wife and I lived near Frisco back when it was still a little farming community in the early '70s... great little town back then. We knew everybody and they knew us. Many of our friends in town, like us, moved away as soon as we got the chance. I avoid it now.

May be. That was just what I was told. IIRC, there were two guys there that I recognized, and when I asked Lewis Trietch about them, that's the story he gave me, saying they used to work up at Sturm, but were family so they didn't get paid much, so they moved to DFW to try their own hand. Not that it matters, really... ... .

Friscoe, eh? Did ya'll ever know a David McClusky? He'd be about 60-65 now, were he alive. He was a good friend of mine, married one of James Aaron's daughters from Prosper, June, and had a son my age I grew up with, Wade. They all live there in Prosper, now, on the South side of 380, East of town, just East of FM423 where it goes down to Friscoe. The last decent sized ranch in the area. Anything else is an egg farm or house orchard!! :(

The price of a Titan or similar tank is too high in my opinion just to add another 25 or so gals of fuel. With a canopy I don't want to use a box mounted tank. I know that I can add a fuel filler door to some canopies but my windows are too close to the front of the shell. Therefore for me the best bet is to add one where the spare tire is. I measured the C&C 52 gal tanks but my frames is not long enough. It would put the tank too close to the diff for comfort AND safety. Not to mention it would be a pain to change diff oil. If I can't find one then I will add one from a Dodge van or Ramcharger myself. I have no problems with adding a second fuel filler door in the box. I did it on my 82 and 84 Dodges, different body but same principle. Shad
