I will be installing a 32 gallon aluminum transfer tank in the bed of my truck this week. On top of the main fuel tank is the fuel module which has one capped fitting which is refered to as the 'auxilary capped fuel fitting'. My question is whether or not this is the best place to run a line from the transfer tank to fill the main tank. I can see this fitting on top of the tank using a mirror and flashlight. If this is the best place to fill, has anyone successfully attached a fuel line to this fitting with the tank in place? if possible, what is the hose size (looks like it may be 3/8"). If all else fails, I'll fill via the 3/4" main tank vent line. Thanks

Most folks tee into the vent line. I don't know why you couldn't use the aux line unless it has a check valve in it. Try blowing though an attached hose with the fill cap off to see if it flows both ways. Seems like the aux outlet may be smaller than 3/8", but shouldn't make much difference.

ISB RAMBO,

If you are gravity filling your factory tank with the auxiliary tank, you will have to tap a connection near the bottom of your aux. fuel tank. The top fittings siphon out the fuel and once you empty the tank in your factory tank the siphon will be broken and the next time it won't fill your factory tank. You will need to hook up the fill line into your factory fuel tank vent line like illflem says.

Do not hook the line up to your factory fuel tank main line to the fuel lift pump because you will empty out of fuel in the aux tank first since it is higher than the factory tank. Once the aux tank is empty the fuel lift pump will suck air instead of fuel from the factory tank.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I probably should have been more specific in my original question. What I have is a 32 gallon aluminum below deck marine tank that has a 1/2" vent fitting and a top mounted fuel line that has been adapted to accept a 5/16" fuel line. This fuel line will run into a fuel filter, then into an anti-syphon valve, then into an SW electric fuel pump then, somewhere, to the main truck tank.

I did get an e-mail telling me that the aux. fuel fitting will work, but there were no specifics as to the hose size and whether or not the tank has be be lowered to assemble.

My latest plan is to remove the main truck fill and vent hose assembly, modify the 3/4" vent line to accept the fill and vent lines from the 32 gallon marine tank. Looks like this will be easy to do. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether or not, after modification, the main tank can be filled with one of the big truck nozzels without major foaming due to the vent line restriction caused by the two in-line fittings. Thanks

I see what you are doing now. If you put a "T" fitting in the vent tube you should not restrict any flow, the main fill tube will act as the vent tube when filling from the AUX tank.
Keep me posted on how this works out I may what to get a tank made for under my tool box.
Good luck.

I've got a feeling with the way the energy thing is going that you might want to fill every tank, barrel and bucket you have before too long. I think that the high diesel prices that we saw a couple months ago are going to seem low compared to what they will be this summer.
