Will HID melt my foglight housing?

Truck Fire?

Truck came with a 32 Gallon tank. Not even the Fifty it could have been ordered with.
What's a good solution for carrying extra fuel?
Truck has a hard bed cover on it now so is there an In-Bed tank I can use?

I should also say, Transfer Flow has a 50 gallon tank specifically designed to fit under a bed cover. I'm greedy so I went with the 75 gallon with slight mod to the bed cover. I am not affiliated with Transfer Flow.

I have a RDS 60 gal... doesnt take up too much space and I put in / out when needed (like now when I can buy fuel 90g at a time in VA rather than NC).

I will do a write up on the install soon, I have all the pictures and used L track and AN fittings to bolt it down so I can put in / take out in seconds.

I have a Titan 50 Gal about 19" deep . With an 8 ' bed you still have the same size as a short bed . Easy to install , shop around on line and you can get a good price .

I have a Handy Fuel & Tool tank/tool box that is now in the 5th CTD I've owned. It has 50 useable gallons and I have a Holly electric fuel pump to transfer on the road. It takes routing the fuel and vent lines, but I like to tinker on my truck, so it was fun and not too hard. Nice to only have to fill up at the end of the day wile towing or once a month otherwise. Also, when I find cheap (not any more, thanks to Bobo the clown) fuel, I can fill up.

Seems we need a refresher study on supply and demand..... I am blue in the face with explaining at the pump why fuel cost was low last year... seems nobody can wrap their head around the fact no / limited flying, driving, shipping, etc.. so fuel was cheap when everyone was "home"... now having to ramp back up (plus alpha) creates a pinch... not Circus Vargas problem in the least..

The fact that Bobo Biden shut down the Keystone pipeline didn't help. I was paying $2.99 for diesel at the end of January, and the next week it went to $3.25 and has not stopped going up. I agree supply and demand has an influence, but shutting off a major entry point IS a supply problem. The current resident of the White House is clueless as to cause and effect, or maybe he's doing it on purpose?

I really think is worldwide capacity and supply and demand but that’s just me. Anyway this thread started as a fuel tank issue ? I’m trying to understand why you need so much diesel fuel. Old 99 34 gallons néw 28 gallons. I drive the top half and refill and have never been close running out. Is it because you can get it so much cheaper in volume . Does that warrant hauling it around ? But I read about folks dumping the water weight in there huge 5 th wheelers etc to save weight so please explain thanks

To me it’s about range off the highway. The 32 gallon tank want woefully inadequate for many of my dirt road trips. 55 gallons provides better range and peace of mind.

32 gallons was only 3 gallons less than my 05 but back road driving is where the 18 has much worse fuel economy due to an unlocked tq converter, so my range was nearly cut in half.

I'll give you an example. There is a big step up in Diesel prices when you leave Albuquerque and before you get Amarillo. If I fuel on the East side of Albuquerque I'll hit the low fuel light just on the outside of Amarillo. If there are head winds or other things that reduce fuel mileage I would have to put a bit of extra fuel in to at as much as $0.50 a gallon to make it in.

Another example. Phoenix to Las Vegas requires a fuel stop in Kingman with the stock tank.
Another example. Eichenburg, AZ to LA and back can be made with a 450 mile range and saves $0.50-$1.00 per gallon not having to fuel in CA.

Yes you don’t want to run a diesel out of fuel. Royal pain for sure. Fuel cost is a big part of these trucks. Maintenance insurance etc I guess but I won’t drive across town to save a few cents but that’s just me. My wife will but not me . If you are running back and forth a crossed the country I guess I can understand

In AZ places are few and F A R away from each other. Towing the grades here can suck MPG to a single digit. 34 Gal is a lie as it’s 28 or so useable gal.

I have only camped once at Alamo Lake and was pushing a bad fuel situation. I ran back to the nearest town to fill up without the 5th wheel so I could make it. Fuel left at the pump does me no good. Neither does a small tank that can’t carry enough.

Turbo: The answer is Range!
When we travel to see the Grandkids it is a 2500 mile trip one way. I haven't used this new truck to haul the RV yet so I'm not sure what my range will be.
However when we did the trip with the last truck that 32 gallon tank had me stopping every 140 to 160 miles. I really don't wish to be forced to stop at the
"next" station because the low fuel light is on.
On top of that I know folks who were forced to halt their trip midway because of a "no fuel" scenario. Just last week my favorite station here in Surprise AZ had a sign on the
pump announcing they were out of Diesel. I believe that the days of easily finding a station with fuel when you need it are going to come to an end.

Yes Terry... Its all about the range. I can only drive about 250miles with the stock tank..( I wont run it less than 1/4 tank with the CP4 ) with my aux tank I can do over 750 miles which is more than I care to in a day (towing at 9mpg) so then I fill at the end of the day or as has been said where convenient and price competitive at large truck stops. When I was in MT, SD, NE I would pass high price stations and usually hit another one down the road saving 20 to 30 cents. My tank is usually only in when I am towing, I can take it in / out in about 15 min or less. My next truck will have the 50 gal option and that would likely be enough but the 25 usable gallons in the current tank is not for me when towing.

After thinking about this I can see the error in my thinking. My 1999 appears to have been much better at mileage than the new 2020. 100 more horsepower etc. and you guys are pulling very heavy campers and sucking the mileage down to single digits. Wow. My loaded 3000 lbs camper and 1500 lb trailer is not the same. I was getting 19 mpg . And when your in unfamiliar country the worry of good quality diesel becomes a big concern also. I can see the need for larger tanks now. The there’s getting def at the pump somewhere. A whole different deal but also a problem
