Auxiliary fuel tank

I just got a good deal on a 55 gal fuel tank, and was wondering is there any way to hook it the main tank with out a transfer pump

NORTHERN sends out a catalog. In it they sell a kit to hook up the fuel tank to transfer fuel. You should check out the local laws though... I have heard it could be illegal due to the possibility of spilling by overfilling the stock tank.

The way I did it was to come out of the aux. tank with what ever size hose and fittings you need and mate it to the fill up hose that is on the truck. Disconnect the original hose from where it goes through the fender, get what ever hose adaptor you need to make the two hoses fit, some hose clamps and you have a 90 gal tank. If you don't want it to work as a single tank get what ever type of electrical cut-off switch you need and go from there. I have a 40 gal aux. tank and have it tied in directly with the original tank to make a single 75 gal tank.

OK I follow the first part about comeing out of the aux tank. Now what part of the OEM fuel system did you tap into? Do you fill the aux tank directly into the aux tank?

When you fill up the aux tank it will fill both. Disconnect the main fill line where it goes through the side wall of your truck, twist it around, it will turn where it goes in to your main tank, get what ever size adaptors you need to fit the main line and the line from your aux together. You will also need to run your vent line up to your aux tank to make it fill easier. Same procedure, whatever size adaptors you need to fit the hoses together.



I used a 40 gal "reefer" tank so it had all the places for the vent lines, return line, line to the engine ect were already on it. You also might need to run your return line up to your aux. tank if you tie the two together like I did. Mine is a permanent installation, if you are going to be taking it in and out, don't do it like this.
