I'm finally getting off my butt and installing a pair of KC foglights and driving lights. I was going to rig them up with them being spliced into the lowbeam and highbeam wires. KC says to first check to see if this will mess up any of the computers. So..... has anyone done this and if so how'd it work? Finally, which wire is the for the high beams and which is for the low beams? I see a fat wad of wires alongside the steering column - is this where I'll find them?

Thanks in advance,

Bryan

I installed a pair of PIAA driving lights. I tapped in close to the headlights themselves. I used one of those conductivity sensors, the one with the pointed tip to find the correct wire. I soldered the wires and shrinked tube them. Works fine. Sorry can't remember what color it was but the sure way is with the sensor.

Why not just wire them direct to the battery with switches inside actuating the relays? It would give you controll over situations when the lights are on in combination w/ headlites (ie- hi/lo).

DOWNSIDE= you would have to turn them off manaully after ignition switch off.

By tapping into the high beam circuit it allows the dimmer switch to still be operable when on coming vehicles aproach. No fumbling for switches. I also have a switch inside the vehicle that deactivates/activates my driving lights.

This should not be an issue (i think) because the factory dimmer switch setup activates the aux. lights (as proposed in this thread. ) They come ON during low beam operation and OFF when HI's are switched on. Hence the aux. lights will be on during hi beam opperation (not blinding anyone) and ON in low beam operation (again not blinding as this is the factory setting. )

All this assumes that the aim is set such that it does not blind oncoming traffic when lows are on.

I bougth a DODGE kit on Ebay for about $120... . came will fog lights (Hella) switches and relays... . easy to install, I I splliced into the parking lilghts to activate the fog lights... . gotta use relays no matter what or you'll blow switches and maybe the wiring... .

I have a wiring diagram in my gallery you can look at. By using a Double pole double throw switch (on/off/on) and using a relay you can wire your lights to come on with high or low beam or have them always off or always on, no matter what headlights are on (low or high) This gives you the most options for lighting IMO. Also when you tap the high or low beam on these headlights, your LAMP OUT system will not work properly. When you tap say the high beams and kick your high beams on and your driving lights come on it provides the necessary ground loop to "fool" the computer and allow the system to think your high beam filiment is not burnt out if in fact it is. Basically your lamp out light will not come on if you have a high beam filiment burnt out, but you will probably notice this with out the idoit light.

The Bright Box has a "slave wire" available on it to run a relay for the high beams and will not disable the Lamp Out system (There is NOT an additional charge for the wire).

There was a right up about this in a TDR issue..... 48 I think, the one before the most recent one (It had the KORE truck on the cover).

If I got this wrong maybe Joel from Baker Auto can Chime in, but this is the way I understand it

I hope this is not confusing?

On the 2004 1/2 the High beam wire has a green stripe. (starboard side pin in the connector). Close to the headlight is a good place to splice in the trip wire like GTani did. hope this helps.

I have mine wired to the high beam headlight wire also.

Buy a set of the standard KC lights.

Then change out the bulbs to the GE 4522 aircraft landing lights. You will need to run relays to these lights.

These are 250 watt bulbs and I can see a deer on the highway a mile away and kill bugs before they hit my truck! :-laf
